Bradly Feeley

Trad-core Ruby on Rails engineer since 2006

San Diego, California / Lopez Island, Washington / Everywhere in-between

I've worked on some of the largest and most performant Rails apps including:

  • TurboTax and Quickbooks Support Sites with in-product embedded components. Our little Rails API got a request from TurboTax on every page transition. During tax peak this was an incredible amount of requests. Downtime meant extremely degraded Turbo Tax experience and hundreds of millions in lost revenue. Multi-az and multi-region required when tooling for this was non-existant at the time requiring creative engineering solutions.
  • At Apple I worked on two large Rails apps. The first app controlled the managment and deployment of the Apple Maps hardware and software services. The second was an app used to give quantitative evaulation to ML, AI, Search, Discovery, or any API that requires human judgement. How do you evalute the quality of a feeling when you ask Siri to play sad music? How do you know if those models are improving? What does improvement even mean? I loved this work for lots of reason we can talk about it person.
  • At Shopify I worked in Financial Services and Capital/Lending to help put Shopify's data to work on novel lending products for new businesses.
  • Early in my career I cut my teeth at a design agency that quiety built rails sites for large national brands like NBC, NFL, Qualcomm, Fox, Subway. I worked closely with amazing visual designers to build interactive experiences efficient enough to be transient in design.
