Many students walk into internship interviews thinking the goal is simply to answer questions well. But strong candidates also know what questions to ask. An interview is not only for the company to evaluate you. It is also your opportunity to understand how the role, team, and company operate. Thoughtful questions can also show that you are thinking about how you could grow within the organization over time. Some questions students can ask include: How is performance measured in this role? Many teams track progress through metrics, deadlines, and project milestones. What are the goals for someone in this role during the first few months or year? What platforms or systems does the team use regularly? Are there tools I could explore before starting the role? What advice would you give someone starting in this position? And a question that can show long-term interest: What roles or responsibilities do people typically grow into after 1–3 years in this position? Questions like these signal that you are not only interested in getting the internship, but also in learning, contributing, and potentially growing within the company.
