About us
Workforce Buffalo is a network of employment and training providers, educational institutions, economic development agencies, and community service organizations working together to help every person reach his or her career goals. Our Career Centers provide basic career services for all job seekers, with a priority of service given to low-income individuals, to those who are basic skills deficient (including English language learners), and to veterans and eligible spouses for individualized career and training services. Our Business Services team facilitates training initiatives with businesses, educational providers and community organizations. At the center of this work is the Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (BECWIB), the local area’s Workforce Development Board under The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and the Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Development Consortium, Inc. (WDC), its fiscal agent and the grant sub-recipient of WIOA funds, as well as other grant funds received for job training and development. Together, we address the needs of job seekers and businesses for a skilled workforce leading to self-sustaining wages and economic growth.

⭐️ Workforce Buffalo Success Story Spotlight: Dominique Bolden and Augusta Johnson⭐️ Celebrating the success of Dominique Bolden and Augusta Johnson, proud graduates of the Workforce Buffalo Technology Specialist Career Pathway Program, built in partnership with Workforce Buffalo and Per Scholas, funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. From October 20, 2025 to February 6, 2026, Dominique and Augusta immersed themselves in hands-on IT training—mastering basic IT skills, command line prompts, PC building and components, and gaining valuable CompTIA A+–aligned experience. Their hard work culminated in a well‑earned Certification of Program Completion from Per Scholas at their graduation ceremony at the Larkin Center of Commerce. Today, both Dominique and Augusta are thriving as Epic TDR Technicians at Kalia Health, providing essential IT support for PCs and printers. ⭐️ Workforce Buffalo Success Story Spotlight: Jerell McDowell ⭐️ Workforce Buffalo proudly celebrates the inspiring journey of Jerell McDowell, whose resilience and determination helped him transition from unexpected job loss to a rewarding career in healthcare. Jerell was a dedicated employee at Sumitomo Rubber USA for 11 years when the plant announced its closure in November 2024. At the time, he was supporting his family and attending nursing school, and the sudden layoff left him unsure of how he would manage it all. “I suddenly found myself on unemployment for the first time, and didn’t know how I was going to juggle having to job search, attend and pay for school, as well as take care of my family.” A friend in Trocaire College’s LPN program told Jerell about the Erie County Healthcare Careers Grant (ECHC), and he quickly connected with ECHC Case Manager Kerry Quinn for support. “I cannot express how helpful, genuine, and respectful Kerry was to my personal situation. This program offered me so much relief. I not only received $5,000 to help cover my tuition, I also received a stipend to help with buying gas to get back and forth to school.” ECHC provided Jerell with more than financial assistance—it also offered tools like résumé building, interview preparation, and job search support to help him stay focused on his goals. After graduating from Trocaire’s LPN program, Jerell was hired as an LPN Supervisor at Elderwood in Lancaster, earning $28 per hour. “Now that I’m back in the workforce, I find myself very appreciative of the journey I’ve been on to get here. Programs like ECHC help guide you and give you the confidence you need to keep going. I plan to continue my nursing studies and work toward earning my BSN.” Workforce Buffalo congratulates Jerell McDowell on his achievements and wishes him continued success as he grows in his healthcare career. #WorkforceBuffalo #SuccessStorySpotlight #HealthcareCareers #LPN #TrocaireCollege #ECHCGrant #CareerAdvancement #BuffaloJobs #CommunityImpact #WorkforceDevelopment
