These days, the humble bathroom scale can do much more than simply show your weight. Smart scales measure various body composition metrics, such as body fat percentage, muscle mass, and water weight, and track your results in an app, serving as useful health and fitness companions. We’ve been testing smart scales for more than a decade, in our actual homes, using our own bodies. Our top pick, the Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale, is highly accurate and offers features typically found in more expensive models, including 14 tracked metrics, Wi-Fi connectivity for remote app syncing, and a rechargeable battery. September 30, 2026: With this update, our lineup of recommended smart scales remains unchanged. Our existing picks have been vetted for currency and availability. We currently have five new smart scales in PC Labs for evaluation from makers including Garmin and Withings. Since we last updated this story, we have also refreshed our recommendations of the best fitness trackers.
- Tracks 14 metrics
- Highly accurate measurements
- Clear, customizable display
- Rechargeable battery
- App offers details, charts, and context
- Syncs with a variety of third-party health apps
- Crowded app
- Confusing baby mode feature
The Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale features a colorful display that shows a customizable list of measurements and your progress toward your goals during daily weigh-ins. The scale has a rechargeable battery and built-in Wi-Fi, perks generally found on more expensive models. Its companion app does an excellent job of quickly contextualizing every metric, with the option to dive deep to discover what they mean and how you can improve your numbers.
Tracked metrics: Using the typical process called bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), the Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale measures 14 metrics, including basal metabolic rate (BMR, the minimum necessary energy needed in an inactive state), body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI, a measure of your body weight in relation to your height), body water, bone mass, fat-free body weight, heart rate, metabolic age, muscle mass, protein percent, skeletal mass, subcutaneous fat (the fat just under your skin), visceral fat (the deeper fat by your organs), and of course, weight (up to 400 pounds).
Features: Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, you don't need to have your phone nearby to take a reading with the Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale. It can upload your data to the cloud automatically. It has a 500mAh rechargeable battery, so you don't need to keep a supply of disposable AAs on hand to keep it running. We also appreciate its pregnancy mode, which disables the BIA feature so you can safely use the scale for weight readings if you have a pacemaker or are pregnant. Finally, it has a bright LCD to show your readings on the scale itself after a weigh-in.
App design: The VeSync app provides a lot of details for those who want them and makes this information easy to find. You can see how all your metrics compare with typical values for someone your height and age. You can see each metric graphed over time to gauge your progress, and it provides guidance for how you can improve.
Accuracy: In testing, Etekcity's numbers aligned closely with those from the expensive handheld Omron HBF-306C body fat monitoring device used at many gyms. Etekcity's body fat reading matched Omron’s exactly, and the BMI reading only deviated by tenths of a percentage point.
Stats enthusiasts:Â If you're trying to achieve a specific weight, target a certain body fat percentage, or simply stay informed about your health, the Etekcity Scale can help. It accurately measures your weight and 13 other body composition metrics, tracking your stats in its app so you can stay updated on your fitness goals over time. The colorful screen provides immediate feedback on your progress, and the app effectively contextualizes your metrics.
Anyone on a weight-loss journey: If you're on a diet or fitness plan, the Etekcity Scale can help you see less obvious progress and stay motivated. You might not lose weight immediately, but if your body fat percentage is going down, you're doing something right. Closely monitoring your weight and body composition statistics can help you determine if your plan is working or if you might need to try something different to get in shape.
Weightlifters: If you're working on specific muscle groups and want to track the fat-to-muscle ratio in each arm, leg, and torso, other options on this list will break down the composition of those body parts.
New parents: The Etekcity Scale has a baby mode, but it's confusing to use, and other scales on this list have better implementations of this feature.
- Affordable
- Tracks 13 metrics
- Baby, luggage, pet, and pregnancy modes
- 22-month battery life
- Syncs with Apple Health, Fitbit, and Google Fit
- Heart rate measured through your camera lens
The Wyze Scale X measures 13 body composition and health metrics and makes it easy to track them via an intuitive app. Its measurements are consistent and accurate enough to reflect your progress as you strive to reach your fitness goals. While most of its features are pretty standard for smart scales, the Wyze Scale X nails the basics while undercutting the competition on price.
Tracked metrics: During your weigh-in, the Wyze Scale X calculates your body fat percentage, body mass index, basal metabolic rate, body water percentage, bone mass, lean body mass, metabolic age, muscle mass, muscle mass percentage, protein level, and visceral fat. It has a supported weight range of 11 to 400 pounds and an age range of 10 to 100 years.
Features: The Wyze Scale X supports app syncing for up to eight unique users and connects with popular third-party apps such as Apple Health and Google Fit. It also offers a few useful extras, such as modes to weigh babies, pets, and luggage, as well as a safe mode for pregnant women and those with implanted medical devices. The box includes four AA batteries that should provide a charge for 22 months. It lacks Wi-Fi, but the scale will store readings until your phone is back within Bluetooth range.
Accuracy: Weight readings from the Wyze Scale X were within a pound of the measurements from a high-end scale at a local gym. Its body fat and BMI measurements were within 1% of those from the handheld Omiron HBF-306C.
App design: The Wyze app makes your measurements easy to read at a glance. Tap any metric to see a simple graph showing where your measurement lies in relation to the healthy range for a person of your age and height. You can see your data graphed over time for any tracked metric, and the app makes it easy to weigh babies, pets, and luggage.
Value shoppers: With a very affordable price, reasonably accurate metrics, and an excellent companion app, the Wyze Scale X is a steal. It doesn't have Wi-Fi, a rechargeable battery, or the ability to measure subcutaneous fat, but it can save readings until your phone is in Bluetooth range, lasts 22 months before needing a battery replacement, and provides a comprehensive view of your body composition.
Parents (of babies or pets): The Wyze Scale X makes it easy to weigh babies, pets, and even luggage. Just step on yourself, then again, while holding your child or fur baby. Better yet, the Scale X can track the weight of your loved one over time, so you can keep tabs on whether you need to put your pet on a diet.
Data divers: The Wyze Scale X lacks measurement capabilities for certain advanced metrics, such as subcutaneous fat (the fat just below the skin). Other scales on this list track even more body composition details.
Convenience seekers: Since the Wyze Scale X doesn't have Wi-Fi, you'll need your phone nearby to sync measurements with the app. It can save a reading until you have your phone ready, but others upload info automatically.
- Competitively priced
- Highly accurate weight readings
- Detailed DEXA-like insights
- Baby, luggage, pet, and pregnancy modes
- Wi-Fi for phone-free data syncing
- Some inconsistent muscle mass and body fat readings
- No rechargeable battery
The Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan calculates your overall body composition and, via the attached handle, also breaks down the muscle and fat in each arm and leg. This level of detail mirrors that of an expensive medical test called a DEXA scan, and Wyze's premium scale offers these advanced metrics for about half the cost of competing handlebar models.
Highly detailed metrics: In addition to weight, the Ultra BodyScan measures basal metabolic rate, body fat percentage, body mass index, body water percentage, bone mass, heart rate, lean body mass, metabolic age (which compares BMR to an age-based average), muscle mass, muscle mass percentage, protein level, subcutaneous fat, and visceral fat. The handlebar allows the scale to also break down segmental muscle and fat for each of your arms, legs, and torso.
Features: The Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan has a few extras, like a mode for weighing babies, luggage, and pets. Built-in Wi-Fi means you don't need to keep your phone nearby to record a weigh-in. A safe mode turns off the conductive BIA process for pregnant women and people with pacemakers for safe weight-only readings. The BodyScan offers smart recognition for up to eight users and can sync your health data with third-party services, including Apple Health and Fitbit. It comes with the requisite four AAA batteries.
Accuracy: In testing, the Ultra BodyScan's weight readings proved extremely precise. It stayed consistent across multiple weigh-ins throughout the day and proved accurate as I added or removed clothing. It's sensitive enough to detect a weight change when I was holding my phone and when I wasn't.
App design: The Wyze app shows your readings at a glance, and you can scroll through for detailed reports, including graphs of metrics over time. Extras like baby, luggage, and pet mode are easy to find and use.
Strength training enthusiasts: If you're on a strength-training journey, the Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan can show your progress as you build muscle in your arms and legs, thanks to its handlebar readings.
Dieters: The Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan has the most precise weight readings of any scale we've tested, tracking changes down to a couple of ounces. If you're trying to hit an exact weight, you can carefully track your progress with this scale.
Fitness beginners: If you're just starting a weight-loss journey, you likely don't need the extra detail provided by the handle on the Ultra BodyScan and can save money by opting for a model without one.
Convenience seekers: The Ultra BodyScan promises up to eight months of power from four AAA batteries, but other scales on this list have rechargeable batteries, so you don't need to keep replacements on hand.
- Highly accurate weight measurements
- Tracks 24 metrics
- Helpful onboard display and controls
- Well-organized and informative app
- Detailed DEXA-like insights

Equipped with electrodes and a display on the handlebar, the Renpho MorphoScan Nova Body Composition Scale measures more metrics than most other smart scales and makes it easy to check your stats at a glance during your morning weigh-in.
Breadth of metrics: The Renpho MorphoScan Nova Body Composition Scale calculates a lot of metrics, including basal metabolic rate, body fat mass and percentage, body mass index, body water mass and percentage, fat free mass, metabolic age, mineral and bone mass and percentage, muscle mass and percentage, protein mass and percentage, skeletal muscle index (SMI, which compares your skeletal muscle with your height to evaluate risk for functional decline), subcutaneous fat, skeletal mass and percentage, visceral fat index, waist-to-hip ratio (which compares the approximate circumference of each), and weight. The handlebar allows it to break down segmental muscle and fat for each arm, each leg, and your torso.
Features: In addition to the measured values, the MorphoScan also provides evaluative assessments, such as your body type and optimal weight. The scale has a rechargeable 1,000 mAh battery, which promises five months of power between charges. It pairs to your phone via Bluetooth.
Accuracy: The MorphoScan’s weight readings ebbed and flowed from day to day as expected, dropping the day after a cardio workout and increasing after a weekend of indulgence. On a single day, the readings responded accordingly when I added or removed clothes. Its body fat readings were slightly skewed high but remained within a reasonable range. Its BMI, body water, subcutaneous fat, and visceral fat measurements were also accurate.
Handlebar display: The MorphoScan's handle features a 4.3-inch LCD that displays your readings and color-coded graphics. It's crisp, easy to read, and automatically scrolls through multiple data screens, or you can tap the arrows to move forward or back at your own pace. The screens clearly chart various stats to show changes over time.
Fitness enthusiasts: If you want to know how well your gym routine is working, the Renpho MorphoScan Nova offers more detail than most, and its display is easy to read at a glance. It replicates the results of an expensive DEXA scan for much less money, so you can see if you need to spend more time on your arms or legs to reach your goals.
Beginners: If you're trying to kickstart a fitness routine, this Renpho scale can track everything you might be interested in, and its informative app will show you the stats to focus on. The Renpho app is so user-friendly and easy to read that checking your stats daily is quick and painless.
Hands-off tech users: The MorphoScan doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi, so it works best if you bring your phone nearby and keep the app open. If you like to step on the scale in the morning before turning on your phone, look for other options.
Budget shoppers: While capable of tracking a wide array of metrics from a single weigh-in, other scales on this list do almost as much for less money.
Pregnant women: You can't disable the BIA electrical current for weight-only measurements on the MorphoScan, so pregnant women and those with a pacemaker should go with a different model.
- Tracks 17 metrics
- App contextualizes your measurements
- Syncs with Apple Health, Fitbit, and Google Fit apps
- Has an Infant Mode for babies
- No Wi-Fi support
- Compact design won't accommodate large feet
- Lacks safe mode for pregnant women and people with pacemakers or other internal medical devices
The FitTrack Dara measures an impressive 17 different metrics. It doesn't work with Wi-Fi, but it'll send data over Bluetooth to your phone, where its companion app clearly charts and contextualizes all of the data it collects. You can also use it to measure the weight of a baby or pet without needing to break out your calculator. Simply step on with or without the child or pet, and the scale will calculate the weight for you.
Tracked metrics: Step on the FitTrack Dara, and it can measure your basal metabolic rate, body mass index, body fat percentage, body water percentage, bone mass, fat mass, metabolic age, muscle mass, muscle rate, protein mass, protein rate, subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, weight without fat, and, of course, your actual weight (up to 400 pounds).
Features: The FitTrack Dara syncs with Apple Health, Fitbit, and Google Fit apps. It also features an Infant Mode that lets you quickly weigh a baby.
App organization: The FitTrack Pro app helps you understand your metrics, tells you whether you're in a healthy range, and keeps track of your progress. You can see each metric graphed over time, and save and share charts if you're proud of your progress.
Parents and pet owners: The FitTrack Dara makes it easy to track your baby's weight and monitor their growth. Similarly, the scale lets you weigh your pet so you can see whether Fido's new diet kibble is effective.
People with big feet: Measuring just 10.23 by 10.23 inches (HW), the FitTrack Dara is a compact smart scale. If your feet are larger than a woman's size 9 or a man's size 7, your toes will probably be hanging off.
Pregnant women: The FitTrack Dara doesn't have a safe mode that turns off the electrical current, so pregnant women and those with pacemakers should look elsewhere.
Hands-off tech users: Since the FitTrack Dara doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi, you'll need to keep your phone open to sync data when you step on the scale. In comparison, models with Wi-Fi can automatically send measurements to the cloud.
- Gathers accurate data
- Measures 17 different metrics
- Detailed body composition breakdown
- Helpful information in app
- No Wi-Fi or onboard storage
- Lacks a safe mode for pregnancy and pacemakers
- App can be slow to sync with scale

The highly accurate HumeHealth smart scale uses BIA to calculate body composition and features a handheld scanner that increases precision, allowing it to measure the amount of fat and muscle in your arms, legs, and torso, similar to a professional DEXA scan.
Wide array of tracked metrics: The Body Pod gathers information on 17 metrics. These include basal metabolic rate, body fat mass, body fat percentage, body mass index, body water, bone mass, fat-free body weight, heart rate, metabolic age, muscle mass, muscle mass percentage, protein mass, protein percent, subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, weight, and weight control (or how much you need to gain or lose to hit the ideal weight for your age, sex, and height). The sensors in the handle allow the Body Pod to measure the amount of fat and muscle contained in each of your arms, legs, and torso.
Accuracy: The Body Pod accurately measured the fat content in my arms, legs, and torso during testing. The scale's weight readings aligned with those of a control device, and body fat and BMI were within a couple of tenths of those from the handheld Omron HBF-306C. Across all measured metrics, the Body Pod proved highly precise.
App design: The Hume by FitTrack app offers a full-body diagram showing the amount of fat and muscle in each arm, each leg, and your torso. All metrics are graphed on simple bar charts and compared with ideal ranges. The app offers personalized insights, and you can see your data charted over time, for a visible indication of progress.
Bodybuilders: If you're a data-driven athlete looking to track your progress toward a specific body composition goal, like gaining muscle mass in your arms or legs or toning your midsection, the HumeHealth Body Pod could be well worth the premium, as it proved highly accurate in testing.
People looking for a DEXA scan: Hume claims its Body Breakdown results sit within 3% of a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, so while the Body Pod is expensive, it can save you money versus going to the doctor for DEXA medical scans. According to WebMD, the average cost of a single DEXA scan paid out of pocket is approximately $160 to $175; however, other sites estimate the average closer to $300 per scan.
Budget shoppers: The HumeHealth Body Pod could be worth the money if you need a high level of precision in your measurements, but other scales on this list come close to its capabilities for less.
Feature hunters: The HumeHealth Body Pod doesn't have Wi-Fi, a safe mode for pregnant people, or even onboard storage to save a reading until you sync next. Other scales on the list check off a lot more boxes in terms of basic features.
The Best Smart Scales for 2026 Compare Specs
Do Smart Scales Work With Fitness Trackers?
Unsurprisingly, the best smart bathroom scales are compatible with the best fitness trackers. When you pair a Wi-Fi- or Bluetooth-connected scale with a fitness tracker, you typically use just one app to see data from both devices. Add a heart rate monitor or an at-home blood pressure cuff, and you have even more information at your fingertips without needing a spreadsheet or notepad.
Maybe you don't want to track your weight over time, but chances are your doctors and healthcare team do. Or maybe it's not you, but someone in your family who needs to keep an eye on their weight. Smart scales can distinguish among multiple users and track each user's weight separately and privately. Sharing data among family members and doctors is also an option.
Smart bathroom scales automatically log your weight every time you step on them. Many of the best scales also measure body fat, while others track bone density and water percentage. Some can even read your heart rate through your feet.
What Do Smart Scales Track?
Although many people want to track their weight and the number of steps they take each day to better understand their health, some individuals are seeking more. Athletes and individuals who train regularly likely want a scale that offers great features, a companion app, and tools to support them on their journey.
We note in our reviews which fitness and health tracking apps each of these scales supports. Some work with apps that calculate your training intensity and chart your VO2 max, lactic acid threshold, and more. But if all this talk of VO2Max makes your head spin, you might prefer a smart scale with a simpler user experience.
Should You Get a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Scale?
Smart scales typically use either Bluetooth or a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi scales generally cost more because they require more components to work. They're also much more convenient.
To track your daily weigh-ins from a Bluetooth scale to the app, you need a Bluetooth device nearby. If you leave your companion smartphone, fitness tracker, or running watch in the other room, you're out of luck until it's within Bluetooth range. (Some scales can save a recorded weight until the next sync, but the cheaper ones do not.) A Wi-Fi-enabled scale doesn't have this problem. It syncs your data as long as it has a signal from your Wi-Fi router. In our testing, Wi-Fi syncing is more reliable, whereas Bluetooth syncing occasionally fails.
How Does Pregnancy Mode Work on Smart Scales?
Women who are pregnant or who might become pregnant have unique needs when it comes to tracking their weight. Many pregnant women may not want BIA measurements (which measure body fat, bone density, and water percentage) because the devices use mild electrical impulses to measure these values. People with a medical device implant, such as a pacemaker, should also likely avoid smart scales that use BIA scanning.
Some, but not all, scales that support BIA measurements offer the option to disable BIA measurements. If available, a pregnancy/weight-only mode typically disables the BIA function, allowing the scale to measure only your weight.
