At 3:35 a.m., Saturday morning, a person was transported to the hospital for injuries after being hit in the head by a metal baton-like object at the Student Manor Apartments at 18th and Agate. The victim was located at 19th and Emerald. There were also reports of gun shots being heard. The victim and suspect know each other. 

The suspect is described as a white male, bald, wearing all black, last seen running south on Agate St.

Friday, April 4  3 p.m.

The University of Oregon Police Department and local public safety agencies will hold an “active violent incident” training April 7-9 at Matthew Knight Arena. 

Fire vehicles, ambulances and police cars will move to and from the east end of the arena between 7 a.m. and noon. Lights and sirens will not be used and there should be few disruptions to the public. Most of the training will be within the arena and away from public view to minimize concern.

Conducting the training over the three days will enable more participation from emergency personnel from each of the public safety agencies.

March 13, 2025   2 p.m.  

This morning, Thursday, March 13, at 7:15 a.m., an individual attempted to force his way into Barnhart Hall, saying that he had a gun and was on ketamine. Residents and staff ensured the main entry door remained closed and other residents were alerted to the concern.  

UO Police Department responded and arrested the man in a nearby parking lot. The suspect was carrying an airsoft gun.  

There is no apparent ongoing threat to the university community. If you have any information about this event, contact UOPD at 541-346-2919.

What is this notice? Campus Security Advisories are released by the University of Oregon Police Department when certain crimes are reported on or near campus property. These advisories provide information about campus safety situations and allow campus community members to take precautions for personal safety. All crimes should be reported as soon as possible to local law enforcement.  

SAFETY TIPS FROM UOPD  
No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for his or her victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects. The following suggestions may help reduce the possibility of experiencing such a crime or may improve opportunities to receive prompt assistance.  

• Communities are safest when members look out for each other: Report any suspicious activity or unauthorized strangers immediately. 
• Secure your belongings and don’t leave them unattended. 
• Make sure doors and windows are locked. 
• Don’t hold doors open for unknown people to let them enter private, secure areas. 
• Be alert traveling to, from, and around campus – especially at night. 
• Carry a well-charged cell phone with emergency numbers pre-programmed.
• Bystanders should try to be aware of their surroundings. If there are signs of a person in distress, bystanders should help if it is safe to do so, and/or seek immediate assistance from police or security personnel.  
• UOPD provides extra security patrols in the form of Community Service Officers around residence halls during the night and are available to assist with security escorts or to manage suspicious concerns.  
• Report criminal activity (such as a break-in or intruder, robbery, or assault) immediately to 9-1-1, or for non-emergency situations on campus, to UOPD at 541-346-2919.

• Duck Nest in EMU provides a place for students to practice self-care and life-balance. It is staffed by Peer Wellness Advocates.   

March 12, 2025  10:30 a.m. 

On Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, an unauthorized person was found in the Mathew Knight Arena men’s locker room by a UO employee. The person had gathered items and hidden them in a suite bathroom. Items were returned to the employee, and the suspect left the building.  

The suspect was identified and arrested by UOPD officers in Springfield on Monday, March 10.
