## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Welcome to the Jungle Job Scraper

Collects public, source-backed job and company records from Welcome to the Jungle. Search mode uses the site's public search index; direct URL mode reads the public JobPosting JSON-LD embedded in each job page. Browser automation is not required.

### Modes

- search: provide keywords, optionally a location and job filters. Results include stable job IDs, canonical URLs, company metadata, locations, contract and remote policies, salary fields when published, professions, sectors, publication dates, query provenance, and more.
- jobUrl: provide one or more English or French /companies/.../jobs/... URLs. Results include the full public description, qualifications, employer website/logo/address, job locations, employment type, publication/expiry dates, and salary data when published.
- Set includeDetails in search mode to merge public job-page JSON-LD into each selected search result. Detail requests run with bounded concurrency and retain the rich search record if an optional detail page becomes unavailable.

Missing optional values are omitted rather than emitted as null, blank, N/A, or guessed data. Job URLs are canonicalized and deduplicated. maxJobs and maxPages are strict crawl bounds; zero-record and direct-page failures fail the run.

### Search example

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "keywords": "frontend developer",
  "language": "en",
  "maxJobs": 5,
  "maxPages": 1,
  "includeDetails": false
}
```

### Direct URL example

```json
{
  "mode": "jobUrl",
  "startUrls": [
    "https://www.welcometothejungle.com/en/companies/modjo/jobs/front-end-engineer_paris_MODJO_r1OWAWZ"
  ],
  "maxJobs": 1
}
```

proxyConfiguration is optional. Direct access is the default because the public endpoints normally work without a proxy; standard Apify Proxy or custom proxy settings can be supplied when a network requires one.

Run locally with apify run --purge --input-file qa-inputs/local-search.json. In Apify Cloud, use the same input shape and a bounded timeout.

### Output

Every item includes jobId, title, jobUrl, mode, source, sourcePageUrl, and scrapedAt. Optional fields appear only when the source publishes them. See .actor/dataset\_schema.json for the complete typed field set.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Search the public job index or extract one or more direct job pages.

## `keywords` (type: `string`):

Required in search mode.

## `location` (type: `string`):

Optional city or region used for geographic ranking.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Select the English or French search index and URL locale.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Required in jobUrl mode; accepts canonical English or French Welcome to the Jungle job URLs.

## `contractType` (type: `string`):

Optional search filter for the published contract type.

## `remote` (type: `string`):

Optional search filter for the published remote-work policy.

## `experienceLevel` (type: `string`):

Optional search filter for the published experience requirement.

## `maxJobs` (type: `integer`):

Exact upper bound on unique dataset records.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Search-page limit; ignored in direct job URL mode.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Enrich search results from public JobPosting JSON-LD. Direct URL mode always extracts details.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional Apify Proxy or custom proxy configuration. The public endpoints normally work without a proxy.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "keywords": "frontend developer",
  "language": "en",
  "contractType": "",
  "remote": "",
  "experienceLevel": "",
  "maxJobs": 50,
  "maxPages": 5,
  "includeDetails": false
}
```

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "keywords": "frontend developer"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("codingfrontend/jungle-job-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
