## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Romanian Business Directory Scraper — Company Data & B2B Leads

Search Romania's company directory by keyword and get **structured business records with CUI, trade register number, contact details and founding date** — straight from listafirme.eu, no API key, no login, no proxies.

Type what you'd type into the directory's search box (an industry, a company name, a CAEN activity keyword) and receive clean JSON, CSV or Excel — one record per company.

### What you get

- 🇷🇴 **Official identifiers** — CUI (fiscal code) and trade register number (J-number), ready for VIES/ANAF cross-checks
- 📇 **Contact data** — phone, email, website where published
- 📍 **Location** — full address, city, county (județ)
- 🏷️ **Classification** — business category / CAEN activity and founding date
- 📅 **Fresh data** — scraped live at run time, with an ISO timestamp per record

### Input

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["restaurant", "constructii", "software"],
  "maxResults": 100,
  "extractDetails": true
}
```

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | array | *required* | Keywords to search — industries, company names, CAEN activities (e.g. `design`, `transport`, `panificatie`) |
| `maxResults` | integer | 100 | Maximum companies across all search terms |
| `extractDetails` | boolean | true | Visit each company's page for phone, email, trade register, founding date |

With `extractDetails` off you get the fast search-result fields only (name, CUI, location) — useful for large list building. Detail fetches are politely paced to respect the directory's rate limits.

### Output

One dataset item per company:

```json
{
  "companyName": "RESTAURANT MARTY S.R.L.",
  "cui": "14370083",
  "tradeRegister": "J12/1750/2001",
  "address": "Str. Horea 5",
  "city": "Cluj-Napoca",
  "county": "Cluj",
  "phone": "+40 264 000 000",
  "email": "office@example.ro",
  "website": "https://www.example.ro/",
  "category": "Restaurante",
  "foundedDate": "2001",
  "detailUrl": "https://www.listafirme.eu/...",
  "sourceUrl": "https://www.listafirme.eu/cauta/restaurant",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-07-17T08:00:00+00:00"
}
```

Fields not published for a company are returned as empty strings — records always have the same shape, so CSV/Excel exports stay clean.

### Use cases

- **B2B lead generation** — build targeted Romanian prospect lists by industry and county, with direct contact details
- **KYC / supplier vetting** — resolve a company name to its CUI and J-number, then verify in ANAF or VIES
- **Market research** — measure business density per sector or region; track founding dates for market-age analysis
- **CRM enrichment** — fill missing CUI, address or website fields on existing Romanian accounts
- **Local SEO & citations** — assemble accurate name/address/phone data for Romanian businesses

### Run it on a schedule or from your code

Create a Schedule in Apify Console to refresh your lists weekly, or call the Actor from anywhere:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/darknezz~ro-business-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"searchTerms": ["software cluj"], "maxResults": 50}'
```

The call returns the scraped companies directly as JSON. Every run's dataset can also be exported as CSV, Excel, XML or RSS from Apify Console.

From Python with the official SDK:

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("darknezz/ro-business-scraper").call(
    run_input={"searchTerms": ["software cluj", "transport marfa"],
               "maxResults": 50, "extractDetails": True})
for company in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(company["companyName"], company["cui"], company["city"])
```

### Worked example

A live run with `{"searchTerms": ["restaurant"], "maxResults": 3, "extractDetails": true}` returned these real records (02 Sep 2026):

| Company | CUI | Trade register | County | Website | Founded |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RESTAURANT BACOLUX SRL | 6440531 | J1994003017165 | Dolj (Craiova) | bacoluxhotels.ro | 1994 |
| TOURISM HOTEL AND RESTAURANT CONSULTING GROUP SA | 10288009 | J1998002023402 | Bucuresti | thrgroup.ro | 1998 |
| RESTAURANT AVIATORI SRL | 7682568 | J1995000982041 | Bacau | restaurantaviatori.ro | 1995 |

Every record carries CUI, trade register, address, county, website and founded date; phone/email appear masked where the directory gates them (see FAQ).

### Pricing

Pay-per-event: **$0.01 per business extracted**, plus Apify's standard compute. A 100-company lead list costs about $1 in event fees.

### FAQ

**Which directory does it scrape?** listafirme.eu — a public Romanian company directory. Legacy `startUrls` inputs from older versions are still accepted; search terms are extracted from them automatically.

**Is the CUI always present?** Almost always — it is part of the company's directory URL. Trade register, phone and email depend on what the directory publishes and require `extractDetails: true`.

**Can I search by CAEN code?** Search works by keyword; use the activity name (e.g. `panificatie`, `transport marfa`) rather than the numeric code.

**Are financials included?** No — this Actor focuses on identity and contact data. Pair the CUI with ANAF's public services for financial statements.

**Is this legal?** The Actor reads publicly listed business information only, at a polite request rate. Company registry data (CUI, J-number, address) is public by law in Romania. You are responsible for GDPR compliance in how you use contact data downstream.

**Can I search by county?** The directory itself has no county filter, but you can post-filter the results — `county` is a first-class field on every record, and `city` narrows within it.

**Why is `phone` empty on some records?** `extractDetails: true` must be set to visit each company page; and even then, some companies simply don't publish a phone number on the directory. Email and website behave the same way.

**Why are some `phone`/`email` values partial (e.g. `021-210.10 - - 8 removed`)?** listafirme.eu now gates full contact digits behind a site login/"Access package". Anonymous visitors — including this Actor's browser — see a masked preview with an `N removed` marker. The Actor returns exactly what the directory publishes publicly; the CUI, trade register, address and website domain are always complete.

**How many results can I get?** `maxResults` is a soft cap across all search terms; the Actor stops once it reaches it. For very large list-building runs, keep `extractDetails: false` for speed and run detail extraction on a second pass.

### Limitations

- **Contact fields reflect the directory's public mask.** listafirme.eu gates full phone/email digits behind a site login/"Access package"; this Actor returns what anonymous visitors can see — complete CUI, trade register, address, website domain and founded date, but phone/email may arrive masked with an `N removed` marker. Full digits require the directory's paid package, which this Actor does not use.
- **No financial statements.** The Actor returns identity and contact data only. For bilanțuri (turnover, profit, assets) pair the CUI with ANAF's public webservice — sibling actor `darknezz/ro-financial-statements` does exactly that per CUI.
- **Search is keyword-based**, not a full registry dump. The directory has no county/CAEN-code filter server-side; filter results by the first-class `county`/`city` fields instead.
- **Live directory dependency.** The Actor scrapes listafirme.eu at run time; if the site changes its markup or hardens anti-bot protections, detail extraction may degrade until a maintenance build ships (the detail fetch already runs through a real browser to pass Cloudflare's check).
- **Not a bulk registry export.** For a complete ONRC-style register, use the official monthly dumps; this Actor targets search-driven lead lists and enrichment.
