## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

### Pub.dev Package Scoring Scraper

**Scrape pub.dev package scores, popularity, and metadata for any Dart or Flutter package, up to a million per run.** Every package comes with its pub points, likes, downloads, and platform tags. No login or API key. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.

pub.dev's official API limits you to one package at a time and rate-limits bulk lookups. This reads the public package index and search endpoints directly, filtered by name, keyword, or minimum popularity, and returns each match in one fixed schema.

| Who uses it | What they scrape pub.dev for |
|---|---|
| Flutter developers | Which packages are gaining traction before adding a dependency |
| Dart package maintainers | How their own package scores against the competition |
| Market researchers | What the Flutter ecosystem is adopting this quarter |
| Dev tool vendors | Which packages to integrate with next |

### What it does

This Actor collects pub.dev package records by exact name, search query, or the global index, and returns each one as a flat row.

- 📊 **Scoring data:** pub points, popularity, likes, and download counts for every package.
- 🔍 **Search and filter:** query by keyword, exact package name, or minimum popularity score.
- 📦 **Bulk collection:** walk the entire pub.dev index, up to one million packages per run.
- 🏷️ **Platform tags:** see which packages support Android, iOS, web, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.

### What you can do with pub.dev data

**📈 Track package adoption.**

A Flutter developer runs the Actor weekly with a search query for a niche like 'state management' and watches which packages gain popularity.

**🔎 Audit your own packages.**

A Dart package maintainer feeds their package names and compares pub points and likes against competitors to decide what to improve.

**🧹 Clean up dependencies.**

A team lead collects every package in their pubspec.yaml and filters by minimum popularity to find abandoned dependencies to replace.

**📊 Build a market report.**

A market researcher scrapes the full index monthly and aggregates platform tags to report which platforms the Flutter ecosystem is targeting.

### Why choose this scraper

| | What you get |
|---|---|
| **No API key** | Reads the public endpoints directly, no registration or OAuth. |
| **One flat row per package** | Every record has the same schema, ready for CSV or a database. |
| **Filter before you store** | Minimum popularity keeps your dataset small and relevant. |
| **Scales to the whole index** | Collect up to a million packages in a single run. |

### How it compares

This Actor focuses on scoring and popularity data with bulk index walking, while the competitors below cover publisher browsing or FlutterFlow-specific needs.

| Feature | ParseForge | Pub.dev Scraper | FlutterFlow Marketplace Scraper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bulk walk of the entire pub.dev index | Yes | Not listed | Not listed |
| Filter by minimum popularity score | Yes | Not listed | Not listed |
| Search by keyword | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fetch by exact package name | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| List packages by publisher | Not listed | Yes | Yes |
| Browse trending packages | Not listed | Yes | Not listed |
| FlutterFlow widget metadata | Not listed | Not listed | Yes |

### Configure the run

Drive the Actor from exact package names, a search query, or the full package index, and filters run as each package is read so only matches reach your dataset. The Input tab lists every parameter.

A first run with the defaults:

```json
{
 "maxItems": 10
}
```

A larger pull:

```json
{
 "maxItems": 200
}
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-result: **$0.0085 per result** collected. You pay only for the results written to your dataset.

| Results collected | Approximate cost |
|---|---|
| 100 results | $0.85 |
| 1,000 results | $8.50 |
| 10,000 results | $85.00 |

New Apify accounts start with $5 in free credit.

### Free users

Free-plan runs return up to 10 results as a preview. [Upgrade your Apify plan](https://console.apify.com/sign-up?fpr=vmoqkp) to collect up to 1,000,000 results per run.

### Run it

1. [Create a free Apify account with $5 in credit](https://console.apify.com/sign-up?fpr=vmoqkp).
2. Open the [Pub.dev Package Scoring Scraper](https://apify.com/parseforge/pkg-pub-scoring-scraper?fpr=vmoqkp).
3. Set your inputs and any filters, then click **Start**.
4. Export the results as CSV, Excel, JSON, or XML from the **Dataset** tab.

Run it programmatically through the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2) (`run-sync-get-dataset-items`) or the [ApifyClient](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js) for JavaScript and Python.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

Give an AI agent live access to pub.dev through the Model Context Protocol. Add the Actor to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=parseforge/pkg-pub-scoring-scraper"
```

Then prompt it in plain language to run the scraper and read back the results.

### Troubleshooting

**Why am I getting no results?**

Check your searchQuery or package names. If you set minPopularity too high, many packages are filtered out. Try lowering it or leaving it empty.

**Why is the run slow?**

Collecting the entire pub.dev index takes time. Use searchQuery or package names to narrow the scope, or reduce maxItems.

**Why are some packages missing?**

The Actor only returns packages that match your filters. If a package's popularity is below minPopularity, it is excluded. Remove the filter to see it.

**Why do I get an error about maxItems?**

maxItems must be between 1 and 1,000,000. Check your input and make sure it is within that range.

### FAQ

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need a pub.dev API key? | No. The Actor reads the public search and package endpoints directly, so there is no registration or authentication. |
| Can I scrape all packages on pub.dev? | Yes. Leave the package names and search query empty, and the Actor walks the global package index up to your maxItems limit. |
| What scoring data do I get? | Each package row includes pub points, popularity score, like count, and download counts, plus platform tags and other metadata. |
| How do I filter by popularity? | Set minPopularity to a number from 0 to 100. Only packages with a popularity score at or above that value are kept. |
| Can I search by keyword? | Yes. Use searchQuery to pass a keyword to pub.dev's search endpoint, such as 'bloc' or 'http'. |
| Can I get specific packages by name? | Yes. List exact package names in the packages field, and the Actor fetches each one directly. |
| What export formats are supported? | The Actor returns data in Apify's standard dataset formats: CSV, JSON, Excel, and XML. |
| Is there a limit on how many packages I can collect? | You can set maxItems up to 1,000,000. The only limit is the size of the pub.dev index and your Apify plan. |
| Does this work for Flutter packages? | Yes. pub.dev hosts both Dart and Flutter packages, and the Actor returns platform tags that show Flutter support. |
| How fresh is the data? | The Actor reads live data from pub.dev on each run, so scores and download counts reflect the current state of the registry. |
