## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

### Reelgood Streaming Availability Scraper

**Scrape Reelgood streaming availability for any movie or show, up to a million titles per run.** Get every streaming service, price, and quality option for each title in one flat row. No login or API key. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.

Reelgood's official API needs a partner agreement and rate-limits you. This reads the public search results directly, filtered by content type and country, and returns each match in one fixed schema. It is the fastest way to see where a title is streaming right now.

| Who uses it | What they scrape Reelgood for |
|---|---|
| Market researchers | Which streaming services are winning the catalog wars this month |
| Content buyers | Where a title is already licensed before they make an offer |
| App developers | Powering a 'where to watch' feature without building their own scrapers |
| Data journalists | Tracking how streaming exclusivity shifts week to week |

### What it does

This Actor collects Reelgood streaming availability data for movies and shows by search query, and returns each title as a flat row with its streaming services, prices, and quality options.

- 🔎 **Search by title:** type any movie or show name, from 'Breaking Bad' to the latest release.
- 🎬 **Content type filter:** movies only, shows only, or everything.
- 🌍 **Country filter:** United States availability, with more countries on the roadmap.
- 📦 **Bulk collection:** set maxItems up to 1,000,000 titles per run.

Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.

### What you can do with Reelgood data

**📈 Track streaming catalog changes.**

A market researcher runs the Actor daily for a list of 500 titles and compares which services added or dropped each one, feeding a weekly competitive report.

**🛒 Build a where-to-watch widget.**

An app developer scrapes availability for their content database and caches the results to show users the cheapest way to stream each title.

**📰 Fact-check exclusivity claims.**

A journalist searches for a hyped new release and verifies whether it is really only on one service, or if competitors also carry it.

**💼 Audit licensing deals.**

A content buyer checks Reelgood before renewing a contract to see if a title is already widely available, which weakens the seller's position.

### Why choose this scraper

|  | What you get |
|---|---|
| **Streaming services** | Every service where the title is available, including free trials and ads |
| **Price and quality** | Subscription cost and video quality for each service |
| **Flat schema** | One row per title, ready for CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML |
| **No API key** | Public data, no registration, no rate limits |

### How it compares

No other Store actor targets Reelgood the same way, so the honest comparison is with the alternatives teams actually weigh.

| | Reelgood Streaming Availability Scraper | Build it in-house | By hand |
|---|---|---|---|
| Setup | Run it now, zero config | Days of engineering | None, but hours per pull |
| When Reelgood changes | Maintained for you | You fix it | You re-learn the page |
| Proxies, retries, anti-bot | Built in | Your problem | Browser only |
| Output | Fixed JSON schema, CSV/Excel export | Whatever you build | Copy-paste |
| Cost | Pay per result | Engineering time | Analyst hours |

### Configure the run

Drive the Actor from a single search query, and filters run as each title is read so only matches reach your dataset. The Input tab lists every parameter.

A first run with the defaults:

```json
{
  "searchQuery": "breaking bad",
  "maxItems": 10
}
```

A larger pull:

```json
{
  "searchQuery": "breaking bad",
  "maxItems": 200
}
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-result: **$0.0085 per result** collected. You pay only for the results written to your dataset.

| Results collected | Approximate cost |
|---|---|
| 100 results | $0.85 |
| 1,000 results | $8.50 |
| 10,000 results | $85.00 |

New Apify accounts start with $5 in free credit.

### Free users

Free-plan runs return up to 10 results as a preview. [Upgrade your Apify plan](https://console.apify.com/sign-up?fpr=vmoqkp) to collect up to 1,000,000 results per run.

### Run it

1. [Create a free Apify account with $5 in credit](https://console.apify.com/sign-up?fpr=vmoqkp).
2. Open the [Reelgood Streaming Availability Scraper](https://apify.com/parseforge/reelgood-availability-scraper?fpr=vmoqkp).
3. Set your inputs and any filters, then click **Start**.
4. Export the results as CSV, Excel, JSON, or XML from the **Dataset** tab.

Run it programmatically through the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2) (`run-sync-get-dataset-items`) or the [ApifyClient](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js) for JavaScript and Python.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

Give an AI agent live access to Reelgood through the Model Context Protocol. Add the Actor to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=parseforge/reelgood-availability-scraper"
```

Then prompt it in plain language to run the scraper and read back the results.

### Troubleshooting

**Why am I getting no results?**

Check your search query for typos or try a broader term. Also ensure the contentType filter is not too restrictive. If the title is very new or obscure, Reelgood may not have it yet.

**Why is the run slow?**

Reelgood's website can be slow, especially for large maxItems values. Try reducing maxItems or running during off-peak hours. The Actor uses polite scraping, so it may take time to avoid overloading the site.

**Why are some streaming services missing from the output?**

Reelgood may not list every service for every title, or the service may not be available in the selected country. The Actor returns exactly what Reelgood shows.

**Can I get data for countries other than the US?**

Currently only the US is supported. If you need other countries, please contact the Actor developer to request that feature.

### FAQ

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does this work for any country? | Currently the Actor supports United States availability only. The input schema has a country field set to 'us', and more countries may be added in future updates. |
| Can I search for multiple titles at once? | The Actor takes one search query per run. To process many titles, run the Actor multiple times with different queries, or use the maxItems field to collect all results for a broad query. |
| What streaming services does Reelgood cover? | Reelgood tracks major services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, and many smaller ones. The Actor returns whatever services Reelgood lists for each title. |
| Does the output include pricing? | Yes, the output includes the subscription price and video quality for each streaming service where the title is available, as shown on Reelgood. |
| Is there a limit on how many titles I can scrape? | You can set maxItems up to 1,000,000 titles per run. The actual number returned depends on how many results match your search query. |
| Do I need a Reelgood API key? | No, this Actor scrapes the public Reelgood website, so no API key or registration is required. |
| Can I filter by content type? | Yes, use the contentType field to select 'movie', 'show', or 'everything' (default). |
| What output formats are supported? | You can export the results to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML from the Apify platform. |
| How fresh is the availability data? | The Actor scrapes Reelgood in real time, so the data reflects what Reelgood shows at the moment of the run. |
| Can I schedule this Actor to run automatically? | Yes, you can set up a schedule in Apify to run the Actor at regular intervals, such as daily or weekly. |
