Remarkable advancements in AI have changed the landscape of learning, especially when it comes to languages. With the adoption of AI tutors, apps now give users the space to practise their speaking in low-stress, real-time conversations whenever they want.
Here are a few of the App Store Editors’ favourite ways to get fluent, through simulated chats that feel just like the real deal.
Duolingo
Duolingo’s Video Call feature connects you to Lily, the app’s AI-powered conversationalist who tailors the content of your discussion to your language proficiency.
Access it on the learning path or in the Practice Hub by subscribing to Duolingo Max, and start chatting with Lily in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean.
Having trouble understanding Lily’s last sentence? Ask her to repeat what she said or have her slow down – she’s quite the accommodating chatterbox!
Busuu
Learning how to converse in another language can be hard. Busuu’s AI-Powered Conversations feature enables you to build confidence by practising conversations in the app. Using AI, the app generates realistic scanerios like ordering a coffee or greeting someone to simulate natural conversation in the language you are trying to learn.
Users can access the Conversations feature by tapping on the Speak button in the app, or as part of your ongoing lessons.
Speak
Speak offers real-time linguistic feedback as you chat about anything and everything with the app’s AI, and at the same time, analyses the conversation to create unique exercises tailored for each learner.
Work on expressions or grammatical mistakes that you struggle with, or choose a topic you like and dive deeper into the subject in one-on-one roleplays.
