At the time of publication in 1884, Hazara was part of the Punjab, so the publication would have been part of the series of Gazetteers published by the Punjab Government. In 1901, with the creation of North West Frontier Province, Hazara became part of that Province.

Part of the series of  District Gazetteers produced by the Punjab Government 1883-84, edited by Sir Denzil Ibbetson, which is sometimes referred to as the Ibbetson series.
