Phillip Wilkerson creates contemplative atmospheres, immersive drones, and experimental soundscapes shaped by lo-fi evanescence. His work expresses sound as a field of awareness, emphasizing texture, continuity, and perceptual openness.
Phillip Wilkerson
in the hours without a name distant notes return from somewhere beyond remembering light moving past leaves of some other season the sound of a voice almost yours there and gone as time dissolves days loosen their grip years scatter like wings fluttering into evening skies and yet still something of you remains a breath a turn of the head a familiar laugh crossing over this silence the way clarity at last does not answer but opens into landscapes all along and always waiting while we dreamed Phillip Wilkerson June 6, 2026

4-track album Originally released on 01/14/2009 at Bypass Netlabel: archive.org/details/bypass-netlabel archive.org/details/bp016 Newly remastered in 2026, now available for Bandcamp listeners. Created by mixing microsounds and glitches into ambient sound collages and drones, sometimes letting them slowly morph into subtle beats or even completely different songs. In 2009, this music was considered "experimental" and now might be considered "post-ambient" if anyone is concerned about genres and tags. What I remember most about creating this was how much fun I had putting it all together into a coherent collage. It still inspires me today, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did creating it. PCW March 1, 2026 Charlottesville, VA USA Coming soon to digital stores and streaming sites.

13-track album LOW VOLUME LISTENING RECOMMENDED Initially, I playfully considered naming this release "Experiments with the Correlation Meter," but decided "Silver Afternoon" was more poetic. And besides, points to the inspiration — a lyric from a Mazzy Star song I was listening to when I captured the cover image. Technically speaking, though, this might be the best release I've ever engineered on my own. At least as far as designing the sound and recording it so it actually sounds the way I hear it when you hear it. Thanks are due to Jourdan Laik, who, this past summer, very patiently sat down with me on Zoom. He showed me a couple of invaluable tips and tricks in Logic Pro X that, frankly, have given me a whole new desire to make more music. So this release is dedicated to Jourdan. If you'd like to thank anyone for this release, or for that matter, for my continued interest in releasing music, please thank him by supporting his music on Bandcamp. https://jourdanlaik.bandcamp.com/ Phil Wilkerson October 2022 Digital synths: Phillip Wilkerson Digital artwork: Tagir Mohandis Recorded August - September 2022 at Studio East, Barboursville, VA.

6-track album Composed and created by Phillip Wilkerson using Yamaha XS6, Virus Access and Polar synthesizers Mastered by Robert Rich at Soundscape - www.robertrich.com Cover photo © Flemming Bo Jensen - www.flemmingbojensen.com Additional photography © Damon Pla - www.damonpla.com All photography licensed or used by permission. I composed Sojourner with the focused intention of specifically offering listeners a collection of imaginative and meditative quests that, hopefully, will take you to the deep listening and being zone within your listening space. And with every subsequent listen, perhaps even achieving a different experience by allowing the musical odyssey itself to be your destination. Additionally, Sojourner explores new levels of emotional intensity and tension without dipping into Dark Ambient. So while the music here explores a richer emotional intensity, I hope it still conveys the positive spiritual undercurrents and musical signature of my previous Light Ambient efforts. Finally, I added the self-directive: "Go as slow as you can go." My intention with the patient blooming of these tracks is to explore the musical character, nuance, expression, and emotion that unfold as the music is held to a slower pace — such as a breathing pace or the pace of waves washing onto a seashore. Sojourner is about ambient music that is focused, emotionally warm, and visceral, yet evenly paced for highly concentrated and deeply contemplative aural journeys. ~ PW - July 2013
