Windows mobile Install the Tools

1. Install Visual Studio 2005

   Visual Studio 2005 is the primary tool for Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0, and Windows Mobile 6 application development. If you do not own Visual Studio 2005, consider these options:

    

   • Order the Windows Mobile 6 Developer Resource Kit (contains 90-day trial of Visual Studio 2005)
   • Purchase Visual Studio 2005
   • Purchase a subscription to Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN).
   • Become a Registered Microsoft Partner

    

2. Install Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2005*

   Service Pack 1 contains fixes for stability, performance, and security enhancements made in many areas of Visual Studio 2005 since the original release.  Read the release notes for this service pack.

   Please note : Installation of this service pack can take some time. Please ensure you allow several hours for completion depending on which products you have installed and the speed of your machine.

3. Install ActiveSync 4.5 (Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 only) **
   ActiveSync 4.5 allows for connectivity between Visual Studio 2005 and devices based on Windows Mobile 6 and earlier.

4. Install Windows Mobile 6 SDKs
   The Windows Mobile 6 SDKs for Professional and Standard enable development for Windows Mobile powered devices in Visual Studio 2005.

5. Install .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 Patch
   The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 Patch ensures that you have the latest version of the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 in your development environment.

Additional Information for Developers Running Windows Vista

*After Step 2, developers running Windows Vista on their development machine should install the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Vista Patch

**Instead of step 3, developers running Windows Vista on their development machine should install the Windows Mobile Device Center
