A sweeping Black American family saga, a beautifully written love songs
Trust me, do not be intimidated by the 790 pages. Once I opened the book and got to know these people and their stories, I felt like I could read 790 more!! It’s a historical and modern fiction combination, a Black feminist literature. The history of slavery provides the spine of this novel. Ailey and her ancestors story is so astonishing, fascinating, epic, gripping… Definitely my favoriate of the year and I believe this would be another “self-care” reread books of mine.
