离开tenure track却仍然写出这样一本厚重的书着实令人倾佩。本质上是一个political centralization的故事,并且把经典的对欧洲议会起源的文献推回到中世纪,强调royal power而不是bargaining的作用。最大的遗憾还是把royal power作为整个故事的起点而不是中间环节。

重审议会制的起源,对制度主义和强调战争与弱势王权的说法有矫枉过正之嫌,但有时矫枉必须过正。

1) 政治学家跟经济学家学坏了,抓着一个事实(12,13世纪的英格兰王权比较强势),然后过度延申,认为强势王权无比重要。 2) 但矫枉过正是社会科学进步的路径?不过度解读,读者无法接收到作者想传达的信息? 3) 唉,我再仔细读读罢。
