Pets at Home are a well known UK pet shop. They are often used as a go-to for pet products, but their hamster cages are simply all too small.

Pets at Home have a rather vast selection of hamster cages to choose from, but the problem is, they are all too small. Only one of their cages meets the recommended minimum hamster cage size, the Savic Plaza, 100x50cm.

The company sell a hamster cage named the "Large" hamster cage (pictured on the bottom left), except, in reality, it's not large at all. The name Large is very deceptive for those who don't know about hamster care. This cage is known to cause stress behaviours such as monkey barring, bar biting and bar climbing.

Before I knew anything about proper hamster care, I housed my poor hamster Snuggles in the "Large hamster cage" and she used to show major stress behaviours too. Such as monkey barring, bar biting and bar climbing. In fact, Snuggles used to bar bite so much in this cage that she'd even make her nose bleed sometimes.

The fact that Pets at Home only sell one suitable hamster cage is bad enough as it is, but also, their only suitable cage is an online exclusive, meaning it is only availible to buy online. The reason behind this is most likely because they want to be able to fit more cages on the shelves, therefore make more money.

In my opinion, they should sell large hamster cages anyway so that hamsters don't have to suffer, but also, if they sold large hamster cages, they could charge more for them, therefore, they'd get more money anyway.
