I do not paint to produce images.
Each painting is the result of a slow and uncertain process.
There is no search for effect, no demonstration.
An image either holds or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, it disappears.
I work from landscapes.
The landscape is a starting point, not a subject.
What interests me is what remains.
There are almost no human figures in these images.
And yet, they are always present.
Through a line, a structure, a trace.
These elements organize the landscape.
Without them, nothing happens.
With them, a tension appears.
Some images could be made quickly.
That is not what I am looking for.
I am not trying to show a technique.
I am looking for the right image.
