Activity Day Girls Craft Idea: Binary Code Necklace – By Common Consent, a Mormon Blog
Learners make their own binary code bracelets by translating their initials into 0s and 1s represented by beads of 2 different colors. In binary code, each letter is represented by a set of eight digits of either 0 or 1. Each digit is called a bit, and each set of eight digits is called a byte. With two letter initials, bracelets contains 16 bits, or 2 bytes of data. In this video tutorial, I show how I use drawstring bags to package my handmade toys. For this project, I use unbleached cotton fabric, cotton twill ribbon, and matching sewing thread. Additionally, you'll need a sewing machine (I use the Singer Heavy Duty 4423), iron, safety pin, cutting mat, and rotary cutter. I sew drawstring bags in two sizes: a larger one measuring approximately 9.5 inches wide by 10 inches long with a 2-inch depth, and a smaller one measuring approximately 7.25 inches wide by 7.75 inches long with a 1.75-inch depth. To make the larger bag, I cut rectangles measuring 11 inches wide by 13.5 inches long, and for the smaller one, I prepare fabric pieces measuring 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches long.
