The Fools were dormant during the height of the COVID pandemic, but now we’re back with monthly shows at The PIT, classes and busking through the parks of NYC! Our next show at The PIT is May 16 and 18!
WHO ARE THESE FOOLS? The Department of Fools brings Renaissance street theater to NYC. We have performed at venues around NYC, including at the New York International Fringe Festival and at the PIT. Our company members share a love of pure unadulterated play and a commitment to satire. Through the masked mayhem of Commedia, we use humor to address inequities in our society. Commedia dell’Arte is wild, salacious, zany, tremendously enjoyable and deeply satirical. We believe that the social satire inherent in Commedia dell’Arte is still as relevant today as it was during the Renaissance.
