Yeah, the bottom of the beaker was probably wet. I’ve seen them scoot sideways a little as the moisture flashes off but never all the way off a hotplate though.

19·16 days agoThat was truly awful. Owner afflicted by some ancient mummy curse?
I’m doing that right now. Really should get up.

11·1 month agoI know what you mean about it taking your breath away. Took a sip of lab grade anhydrous ethanol once (200 proof), really do not recommend it. My lips and gums burned, and my tongue shriveled as the ethanol sucked up all the moisture in my mouth. Nothing good about it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your oldest living presence on the World Wide Web?English
3·1 month agoTeam Internet Paintball from 1994. My member number was TIP#860. Still have the patch on an old set of cammos, if I didn’t accidentally get rid of them during one of the many times I’ve moved over the years.
Great skill to have, and not really difficult, just a matter of practice and getting a feel for it. I learned from a neighbor when I was just starting college, after he saw me locked out of the house. He was a tool and die maker, had a nice set of picks he made himself. Still have the small set he gave me in a toolbox somewhere, though haven’t used them in over 20 years now so terribly out of practice.
It just taint right, being shot in the crotch like that.
Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there’s spam egg sausage and spam, that’s not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don’t want ANY spam!
Man: Why can’t she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT’S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn’t got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
The self-tapping screws have a hardened tip, so probably last a bit longer than standard screws. Good choice.

Ask@piefed.social•Married people, do you have a wedding ring? Do you always wear it?English
5·1 month agoWe picked out rings for our wedding, and wore them for the most part for the first couple years. We both worked at jobs where we couldn’t wear them, and I work with my hands a lot at home so mine would come off there too. I haven’t bothered putting it back on in years; my wife started wearing the silicone bands which are cheap and comfortable for her. Ring or not, married all the same after 20 years.
I’ll have the spam, spam, eggs, and spam!

92·1 month agoIt’s very unlikely that you would experience any problems. Drug synthesis such as this involves multiple reaction steps, precipitations, washes, and filtrations to produce the final purified active compound. If they’re creating acetaminophen, that final product is going to be pretty much pure acetaminophen with only trace amounts of impurities. Not enough to cause issues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What band/artist have you seen live more than once, would gladly go see again, and what keeps you coming back?English
51·2 months agoFlogging Molly! Took my girlfriend (now wife) to see them for the first time 23 years ago. She loved it, so I figured she was worth keeping. We’ve seen them eight times now over the years, always a great show. Thankfully Dave King made it through his head injury and coma, so the band may be back playing again this year.
I only heard of Blorp due to our Lemmy.zip mod mentioning it a while back. So I knew there was a Blorp.Lemmy.zip access I could use while on my PC. Didn’t know there was a phone app as well until a couple days ago. Glad there is, it’s good. Keep at it, hopefully more folks will find it.

While it came out 22 years ago, State of the Union still feels like it could have been written for now.
