Finally a Win: 96th-Minute Goal Ends Treaty’s Drought and Eases Playoff Pressure

By Emma Dineen It’s really starting to feel like the onset of winter at the Markets Field. Last Friday, as the dark skies rolled in over the stand before halftime against UCD, the atmosphere matched the mood around the club. But perhaps, just perhaps, the dark times are beginning to lift for the Limerick side. Winter nights are here at the Markets Field Treaty United finally have a win again, their first in almost two months. Their last three points came way back on July 11th against Cobh Ramblers (who, fittingly, they’ll face again this week). Since then? One FAI Cup exit, four league defeats, and two draws. That’s why this one felt like a relief. Flags flying high at the Markets Field Friday September 5th: Treaty United VS UCD AFC UCD, “The Students,” lived up to the name with an average starting XI age of just 20.3 years compared to Treaty’s 22.6. Extend that to the full matchday squads: UCD at 20.7 vs Treaty’s 23.3. Remove 37-year-old Ronan Finn from the equation, and UCD’s average...

Playoffs Slipping Through The Fingers: A Turning Point For Treaty?

By Emma Dineen All opinions expressed are 100% my own, unless stated otherwise. It’s been a rough few weeks for Treaty United. Draws upon losses and no league win since early July. With just eight games left, the pressure isn’t just building, it’s biting. Even the online chatter has shifted. Back in spring, fans were buzzing about playoff pushes and the squad’s potential. Now? The conversation is sharper. Criticism of tactics, team selection, even the club’s direction is bubbling up. After nearly five years, the honeymoon period is seemingly coming to a close. Then came Dundalk. What was meant to be another gritty night against the league leaders turned into a collapse for the ages. Treaty’s flaws didn’t just show; they were neon-lit for all to see. Dundalk Run Riot At The Markets Field Just over a month ago, I wrote that Treaty had quietly carved a reputation as one of the league’s trickiest opponents for the big boys. In 2024, Cork City couldn’t lay a glove on them: four meetings, no...

Why Fan Culture is the Beating Heart of the League of Ireland

By Emma Dineen There’s something a bit magical about a Friday night in Limerick. Maybe the sun’s dipping low, or more likely, the rain’s coming at you sideways (because, well, we don’t get to pick), with anticipation thick in the air and the hum of floodlights buzzing overhead (if it’s not June or July, that is). You wrap your scarf tight, make your way through Garryowen, and then you hear it, a steady drumbeat, chants rising and falling, voices blending into a perfect, chaotic harmony. Welcome to the world of the Blue Army Some friends and I enjoyed a Friday night at the Markets Field with Treaty Ted!         Now, if you’re new to this, the Blue Army isn’t a military unit, though their tactical deployment of flags, drums, and vocal power might suggest otherwise. This passionate fan group has grown over the years, evolving from the days of Limerick FC to the present-day Treaty United. They even have their own Blue Army youth division. These are Treaty United’s fierce...

Brawls and Bookings: Munster Derby Boils Over in Limerick

By Emma Dineen  Treaty United and Kerry FC played out a 1-1 draw in a Munster Derby at the Markets Field on Bank Holiday Monday that, honestly, was more about grit than glamour. Patrick Ferry’s second-half header looked like it would hand the hosts all three points, but a late Kerry equaliser, initially credited to new signing Ewan Lee but later ruled an unfortunate Ben Lynch own goal, meant the spoils were shared after a bruising, chaotic finish.           Dean Owens knew exactly what he was doing — taking Ewan Lee down just enough to spoil the chance and stir the pot. Now, I usually float somewhere between journalist and blogger in these features, so before diving into the on-pitch action, let’s give credit where it’s due: the off-field highlight was definitely the pop-up bar at the Markets Field. Treaty City Brewery were serving up their own lager and ale, and it really brought a nice buzz to the evening. Sure, if you were nursing a pint, you...
