On February 10, Jacobin published an op-ed by contributing writer Liza Featherstone titled “Kathy Hochul Is a Good Problem for Zohran Mamdani to Have.” In the article, Featherstone — who frequently writes for Jacobin and has been a champion of the mayor since before his primary win in June — offers a pragmatic defense of his endorsement of Governor Hochul, claiming that such necessary concessions actually reveal the true power of Mamdani’s victory.

If you had to pick a good love story, you might think of something classic, like Jane Austen’s Emma or Casablanca. Or maybe tragic, like Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin or Romeo and Juliet. Or possibly cozy, like Heated Rivalry or Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. What probably doesn’t come to mind is a video game love story, and there’s a good reason for that. Despite the appearance of variety, video game romances only come in one type. And it hardly even counts as a romance.

A year after US Vice President JD Vance shocked European politicians at the Munich Security Conference 2025 by signaling an end to the transatlantic relationship as they had known it, they appear to have found their footing again. It only cost them agreeing to all demands of the Trump administration and channeling most of the bloc’s resources into war and rearmament. In their addresses at this year’s conference, everyone from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz referred to this increased military spending, the building of new armies, and tearing down “the rigid wall between the civilian and defense sectors,” to quote von der Leyen.
