  • Because of the 20 minutes maximum length, and the generally short attention span of most of our listeners, we chose to publish rather brief lectures.

If you haven't split up your audio to different parts yet, please specify at which part would you like to start a new chapter.

Does it correspond to the end of a specific chapter or paragraph?
To what and how many sections would you like to cut it up? What title?

  • Subject: An audio reading of [title] on Dæyke Reader

    Dear [author],
As faithful readers of your work, we are writing to you today to present you Dæyke Reader: a voluntary, participatory and collaborative archive of recorded readings.

Born under the sign of literary sorority in Marseille, France last summer, this archive is composed of texts selected by readers from all around the globe.
It includes fiction, poetry and other forms of narratives seeking to deploy new ways of disidentifying, fantasizing, transgressing and metamorphosing what circulates between and around us. Our primary desire is to render these forms of intersectional literature more accessible.

Below you will find a catalog of our past readings, which we update continuously as we receive proposals from members of the adventure: Dæyke Reader public catalog

I would like to propose for [title] to be published on this platform. I'm eager to share it, since [...write about what it made you feel, why is it important to you...] . Being aware of the fragile economics of publishing, we are ate your disposal to discuss this project with you, concerning author's rights and modalities of audio publication. However, unfortunately at this point we do not have any financial resources yet. We are looking forward to exchanging with you and would like to thank you deeply for your work, it means a lot to us.

    Warmest regards,
    [your name] for Dæyke Reader

  • *In most cases it's fine to record simply with your phone

*Please make sure to choose the best quality settings.
For example "lossless", "no compression", "wav format", at least "320 kbps".

*Avoid as much of the background noise as possible.
For example: machines, background music, wind blowing into the mic or harsh sounds.

*Keep the microphone close to your mouth, without breathing into it directly ;)

*Opt for recording somewhere with little or no reverberation.
For example you can surround yourself with pillows, get under a blanket, hide in the cupboard... in any case, avoid recording in the bathroom / church / hall, unless it is necessary!

*It's always a good idea to record it multiple times and send us different versions of your recording.

*Be discretely pedagogic! Reading slowly, stressing some parts of the sentence, pausing at parts that are more significant make it easier for the listeners to understand.

*You can always prepare the text by annotating parts of the sentences you'd like to stress. For example, ● underline stressed syllables. You can also mark rhythm with a dot for a pause, ○ and draw a circle to remind you to take a breath ●  in the middle of a long sentence!

*In case you made an error while recording, you can snap your fingers to create a visual marker for us at editing, or simply start over the sentence. This can save more than 30min of editing for us, since we don't always know the original text :)
