Presentación

  • Abraham Duarte was born in Hervás (Cáceres, Spain) on October 24, 1975. He received his M.S. degree in Physics Sciences (Electronic speciality) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2004 from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC). He was Previously working at the Electronic Instrumentation and Sensors Group in the Faculty of Physics Sciences at UCM and at the Actuators and Microsistems Group in the IAI-CSIC, in both as research grant holder.

    Dr. Duarte is Full Professor in the Computer Science Department (Dept. Informática y Estadística) at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain). He has done extensive research in the interface between computer science, artificial intelligence, and operations research to develop solution methods based on Computational Intelligence (metaheuristics) for practical problems in operations-management areas such as logistics and supply chains, telecommunications, decision-making under uncertainty and optimization of simulated systems. Dr. Duarte has published (August 2026): 102 papers in SCI-JCR scientific journals (62 in Q1, 26 in Q2, 9 in Q3, and 5 in Q4); 16 papers in non-indexed journals (11 of them indexed by Scopus), 38 book chapters, 4 monographs, and more than 200 papers in conference proceedings and invited talks. His h-index is 30, 33, and 43; according to WoS, Scopus, and Google Scholar, respectively. This researcher has participated in more than 25 scientific projects, being the principal investigator (PI) on 12 of them. As PI, he has managed a total accumulated budget of 1M€ (aprox.). Currently, he is the Director of an Artificial Intelligence Chair, with a budget of 650,000€ funded by SEDIA (State Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence). Additionally, Dr. Duarte has signed contracts with public and private companies mainly as a consultant for solving optimization problems. He has additionally recognized a patent in the United States (Attorney Reference No. 60027.5151US01, AT&T Ref. No.: 2008- 1046), whose rights to exploitation belong to the inventors themselves and AT&T.
