Mal Goes to War

In Mal Goes To War, Ashton demonstrates that he's not a one or two shot wonder but a tour de force of modern science fiction. This novel seamlessly blends nuanced and imaginative world-building with Ashton's signature biting humor. This book is a story about people (or rather quasi-people) that just happens to take place in a world with sentient AI and gene-modifications.
The jacket may say "Andy Weir, Watch Out" but Martha Wells is a better comparison to Ashton's writing style. This is the book to give your friend to get them hooked on sci-fi. Somehow, Ashton keeps on outdoing is previous work. Rather than resting on his Robert Pattinson laurels, his writing continues to improve and shine.
It's only a matter of time before his name is thrown in the ring for a Hugo. This book seems like the perfect place to start.
