I use lmstudio too, from the official appimage.

Never managed to get the nvidia working, probably because the nvidia drivers are a pain to install properly (secure boot, drivers, kernel, display … everything must be perfect or it doesn’t work).

But the CPU is just enough for local models if you are a bit patient and have plenty RAM.

It is very unusual for lmstudio failing to detect your CPU and your system memory. I would start looking for excessive restriction affecting lmstudio itself (appimage ? Native ? Something with selinux or system hardening ?)

Yeah, and that was an actual joke. First and last time I ordered a 1Tb solid state storage from Ali it was a looped 32Mb flash, faking the 1Tb.

Got no refund, kept it as a reminder not to be stupid again.

Maintaining actual skills, unix basics. Not just learning more systemd wizard macros, or jugling with half baked dockerized applications and kubernetes dashboard.

Nothing wrong with systemd or docker, I do many sketchy things like that at work. It breaks and spontaneously generate work, I'm more than OK with that.

Being in both sides of the coin, like every volunteer I can tell often that is really tough.

Sometimes a nice email or a post boost will heal moral for a while.

Sometimes a 1€ donation will help a bit for this month hosting fees.
