He was just supposed to be passing by, but Ronin, the former Sith Lord character who appeared in the first season of the animated anthology Star Wars: Visions, will be returning in the third season of the Lucasfilm series which debuts on Disney+ on Oct. 29 this year.
The big reveal came at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, in a panel dedicated to the hit show, where Visions executive producer James Waugh confirmed that three of the most popular storylines from the first season of the show — “The Duel,” “The Village Bride” and “The Ninth Jedi” — will be continuing in the upcoming third volume of episodes.
Waugh also revealed a “bold new direction” for Visions with the introduction of the Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which he said would be giving filmmakers a chance to tell deeper and more longform stories without the constraints of the shorter runtime of the typical Visions episodes.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 10.]
“Yellowjackets” fans are still hard at work choking down that devastating Season 3 finale. But for Showtime’s favorite frog scientist, Ashley Sutton, more theories about the cliffhanger episode — and the popular series’ shadowy future — are as welcome as free samples in a field study.
“My intention the last year and a half has been to really dive into every character and work on auditions,” the actress told IndieWire. “Just fully lean in and create these people’s lives from scratch, so you can really find the human connection with them. I did that with Hannah, and I actually got the opportunity to play her and this crazy arc that she’s on.”
“She’s kind of all over the place,” Sutton admitted, describing a rich relationship with the material first imagined by series co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. The duo share executive producer and showrunner duties with Jonathan Lisco.

[The following post contains Major spoilers for the Monday, April 21, episode of Jeopardy!] Jeopardy! came down to a tight game after one contestant calculated exactly how much they would need to win. They won by only $100 after the final round. Starnes returned for his second game after fans praised him for his first performance. Host Ken Jennings started off the game by saying that he found out Starnes was born during his initial Jeopardy! run 20 years ago. “Wow. That was a blow,” he said. “And now that I feel like an extremely old man, let’s welcome our new challengers.” Jennings introduced Callen and Vlajnic before starting the game. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass included a plug for the expansion of the film and TV tax credit in her State of the City speech on Monday, saying it is time to “bring Hollywood back.”
Bass spent most of the speech addressing the city’s dire fiscal situation, homelessness, and the work of recovering from the Palisades Fire. But toward the end, she renewed her call for California lawmakers to triple the $330 million state subsidy for the film industry.
“We have to win back our entertainment jobs,” Bass said in the City Council chambers, calling Hollywood “our foundational industry.”

One bit of hiring for Disney+ seems to all but signal the end of the platform’s initial ethos when it came to staffing its shows.
Longtime TV veteran Carlton Cuse, best known for his years showrunning “Lost” alongside Damon Lindelof, will be showrunning a new “Star Wars” series alongside his son Nick Cuse, according to The InSneider. The elder Cuse has been creating shows since “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.” in 1993, going on to create “Nash Bridges,” “Martial Law,” and “Bates Motel” in addition to his acclaimed work on “Lost.”
Disney+ has not returned IndieWire’s request for comment.
It seems likely that this new “Star Wars” series, like every “Star Wars” series to date, would stream on Disney+. At its launch in 2019, and for several years thereafter there seemed to be a desire to avoid traditional TV showrunners at the streamer.

Take a peek behind the walls of the Vatican, as one of the most dramatic transitions of power in the history of the Catholic Church unfolds. In The Two Popes, the Academy Award-nominated director Fernando Meirelles explores the role of the Church in the modern world through the relationship of two pontiffs with opposing philosophies. The biographical drama follows the imagined conversations between the traditionalist Pope Benedict XVI and his successor, the liberal-minded, future Pope Francis, as they work to find common ground.
The portrayals are based on real cardinals, Benedict and Francis. Pope Benedict, played by Anthony Hopkins, resigned from the papacy in 2013. Pope Francis, played by Jonathan Pryce, served in the Papal Chair until his death in April 2025. Both Hopkins and Price earned Oscar nominations for their portrayals — The Two Popes was praised for its masterful performances and its exploration of a crucial era for...

The amazing thing about filming penguins in the wild, “Secrets of the Penguins” cinematographer Bertie Gregory tells Variety, is that since the big birds don’t have land-based predators, humans can get much closer than they might to other animals.
Sometimes the penguins would even get curious about the cameras and “break the fourth wall.”
“That is why this series is so intimate and emotional — we’re relatively close without disturbing their natural behavior,” Gregory explains of the show executive produced by James Cameron and narrated by Blake Lively. “Penguins pretty much have no fear of people. So that means...

CBS has settled a discrimination lawsuit filed by Brian Beneker, a script coordinator who claimed he had been passed over for a writing job on “Seal Team” because he is a straight white man.

A Price Is Right contestant fell on the ground on set after winning a lot of money on the Showcase wheel. The contestant first won $1,000 after spinning 100, and then got a second chance to win more money. The episode was a special “All Cash Friday” where all of the prizes were money. Sabrina Miller was one of the first contestants called to Bidder’s Row on Friday, April 18. She bid $2,000 on a trip for two to Santa Fe, New Mexico. That was the highest price and since the retail price was $2,896, she won. For her game, Punch a Bunch, Miller had the chance to win up to $50,000 in cash. First, she had to guess if items were higher or lower than the given price to earn punches. The first was an electric wok with two chopsticks and a steaming rack. It was priced at $40, and Miller said it was higher.

In archetypical zombie movies like George A. Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead,” the protagonists are trapped in an enclosed location surrounded by hordes of zombies whose only goal is to maul them to death. Yet those zombie hordes are just waiting outside. At most, they run like a mindless herd once they find a way in. These undead don’t plan, don’t strategize, and don’t even think. “The Last of Us” season two does something different in its second episode, and the result is a very different take on the walking dead than what we’ve seen...

Rooney Mara drama “La Cocina” by Alonso Ruizpalacios has been snapped up by boutique movie distributor Mubi to stream exclusively in the U.S. starting May 2.
Mara stars opposite four-time Ariel Award winner Raul Briones in this intense black & white kitchen drama which Variety described as a “chaotic symphony of nearly two dozen characters…” that “mixes biting social critique with stylistic bravura.”
Based on the seminal 1957 play “The Kitchen” by Arnold Wesker, the drama takes place in a hectic Times Square kitchen where a staff of mostly immigrant workers battles the heat, the pressure and the weight of dreams carried from distant homelands.

The 2016 film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” was a critical and commercial success at the time, but hasn’t had much staying power in the cultural consciousness. A prequel to “A New Hope” extrapolated from that movie’s iconic opening crawl, “Rogue One” was vestigial by design. The subtitle also announced the project as one of a planned series of standalone films to pad out Disney’s release schedule; when that effort fizzled along with beleaguered origin story “Solo,” “Rogue One” was left marooned as a largely forgotten blip.

If you listen to the very end of the “Andor” episode credits, you will hear the familiar melody of John Williams’ original “Star Wars” score. Relatively few people will get that far, in part because streaming platforms like Disney+ encourage viewers to skip the credits and move onto whatever’s next in their queue.
But those that catch the soaring theme may be taken aback; like they’ve been reminded of something they didn’t realize they’d forgotten. “Oh yeah,” they might think. “‘Andor’ is a ‘Star Wars’ story.”
After suffering too many trips to galaxies far, far away that were either frustratingly confined to previous visions or otherwise failed to flourish, Tony Gilroy’s two-season limited series sets itself apart, despite functioning like a puzzle piece. Yes, “Andor” is a prequel series to a prequel film to a trilogy that first debuted nearly five decades ago, but instead...

For 11 years, Homura Kawamoto’s manga “Kakegurui” has delighted readers with its hammy, enjoyably ridiculous story of an elite private school where student popularity is determined through a cutthroat underground gambling circuit. Combining intensely serious gambling battles with a strong dose of lesbian homoeroticism, “Kakegurui” (which translates to “Compulsive Gambler” in English) has spawned an entire franchise since its first publication in 2014, including two seasons of an anime series produced by Studio Mappa, a live-action Japanese series, two spin-off manga, and two live-action films.
Now, Netflix — which licensed the anime series for international distribution — is taking the gamble of seeing whether this weird, campy property can make the same successful adaptational leap that manga like “One Piece” have in the past, rather than flop on its face like some other attempts to translate anime to new mediums (see “Cowboy Bebop”). The streamer has today announced that an English live-action adaptation of “Kakegurui,...
