I suppose a24 is very mainstream with the younger crowds and probably has been for some time now. However I'm not young and yes there was a time when a24 wasn't mainstream, in fact it was rather a hidden gem.
Hell I could ask everyone I work with if they've ever seen an a24 film and they would say no, and what's a24? I know cause I have asked. It all depends on your social circles as some folks never leave the super hero Disney circle.
