Aw, this orange Brötchen 💕 I love how wide his nose is!

They are look-through by the government. Part of the family lives outside of Russia, and I don’t want to put anyone back in the country into any compromising situations because of any innocent comments someone could make, since all of us are not the fans of the current government, which right now could be a criminal offense.
So no, I absolutely won’t use Russian messengers.

Nothing new, Russia always does it… Wait. Oh shit. 😅 😢
What happened to the freedom of speech in bloody USA of all places! They are ruining their own brand, hardcore.

I’m going nuts. I’m from Russia, and Russian officials say insane stuff, and then I read news from the US, and it’s the same shit, side view.
Why? Its insane, and it only gets worse. When I lived in the US during Tramp’s first term, it wasn’t that crazy, despite having± same names in high places. Now, it’s like another country, and too much alike my insane motherland. USA, you’re becoming what you hate the most!
Looneytunes, all of them. ☠️

I’m reading fiction books from screen in the evening, nothing too exciting to disturb sleep, and not too long, so I really doubt it’s the reason.

Wow,.lots of detailed information! Looks very helpful. Thank you, I bookmarked it and will read this weekend.

Ah, I don’t ask for any diagnosis from random commenters - if my message left such impression, it was unintentional. My intention was to share my experience and voice out my confusion.
I’ll try to clarify because I feel condescending tone in yours and others’ comments.
Eye strain / muscle strain or something might still be responsible for the bad feeling the next day. Alternatively, light per se might still be the issue, since I’m one of the suckers with light sensitivity and migraines.
I usually read a book from my screen, and I never do it for too long, unless it’s a vacation. I found the article interesting because I blamed the blue light and use filters, but now most probably I would need to search for another solution - or another bedtime activity.

Thank you for the detailed answer and overview of the different options! To clarify about Signal: in order to confirm a new account, Signal sends an SMS with a code to the registered number. In Russia, you cannot receive those messages since maybe 2 years ago. So all existing users are fine, but the new users can’t register an account.
Edit: typos

You are right! Thank you for noticing. Not sure how it happened!

Thank you!

I actually feel terrible the following morning of I fall asleep after doing stuff on my phone (which is most of the nights). If not because of the blue light, then why?

Spot on haha. I doubt they have time to read every single snail mail, but I won’t ever write anything important in a snail mail sent to Russia.

Looks promising, thank you!

Wow, thanks a lot! I’ll look through the options!

Good point, thank you very much!

I’m looking for something to have a family chat with, not to run a terrorist organization:) It’s quite risky via official Russian apps that are look-through, but as long as the content of messages and calls is secured, it should be fine even if the channel itself can be identified. As of now, the usage of messaging apps per se is not prosecuted.

Thank you very much.
However, the problem is that Signal needs phone number registration and sends confirmation via a blocked phone number. When users are registered, it works reliably, but new users in Russia cannot register without a non- Russian phone provider.
And young generation in rich countries also becomes poorer, as a few privileged become even richer.
