PowerPoint video compression & compatibility - "unsupported" message.

I can no longer use PowerPoint's video compression or compatibility functions. I just get an "Unsupported" message alongside every video in the presentation.

This happens on 2 separate laptops. One Win10 & the other Win 11.

Both are using 365 and the latest Office update.

All GPU and graphics cards are up to date.

I've experimented multiple video formats.

I've tried installing VLC & K-lite codec packs.

I can only assume this is a Windows or Office update causing this.

Anyone else with the same problem?

It sounds like you are using an incompatible video format. Here is Microsoft's page on supported video and audio formats. The recommended format is .mp4 files encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio.

Please note that the file ending of a video format indicates only the container format, and not the codec used for the video in the container.
