MCT Program Requirements

If you’re interested in becoming an MCT, we’d love to have you! Microsoft Certified Trainers are part of a world-class community of technical professionals who support the skilling journeys of our customers. Our enrollment process is designed to validate the technical skills and instructional capabilities of trainers who want to earn the Microsoft Certified Trainer status.

To qualify as a Microsoft Certified Trainer, professionals must meet 3 requirements for enrollment. The subsequent sections of this page provide details for each of these MCT requirements:

  1. Review and agree to the MCT Program Agreement.
  2. Possess a valid MCT-qualifying credential.
  3. Provide verified proof of instructional skills through a Microsoft-approved provider.

NOTE: Your MCT-qualifying certification must be valid (not expired) to qualify for the MCT program. An expired certification will show in your MS Learn transcript as N/A with no future date.

Review and Agree to MCT Program Agreement

To begin the MCT enrollment process, first review the MCT Program Agreement for terms and conditions of membership in the MCT Program. You will be asked to acknowledge and adhere to these terms when you submit your MCT application.

Obtain an MCT-Qualifying Credential

Only one (1) MCT-qualifying certification is required to enroll or renew membership in the MCT Program. However, MCTs are required to hold an associated certification(s) for all Microsoft courses they facilitate.

Credential Requirement Details

Your Microsoft Learn user profile must include either the AB-730 or AB-731 certification. This requirement ensures that MCTs possess a foundational level of AI/Copilot.

Provide Verified Proof of Instructional Skills

As premier instructors of Microsoft technologies, MCT candidates must prove they possess the instructional skills needed to deliver engaging, world-class training experiences to our learners. New candidates applying to the MCT Program must verify their instructional skills.

Instructional Skills Requirement Details

You must complete the MCT Onboarding Experience, which is a 3-day program onboarding course taught by existing MCTs.

For more information on the MCT Onboarding Experience, please visit MCT Onboarding Program | Microsoft Learn.

Prospective MCTs may be exempt from the MCT Onboarding Experience requirement if they:

  • Have been an active MCT within three years of their application date; or
  • Are associated with a TSP in Higher Education; or
  • Are a Full Time Employee at Microsoft.

For more information on exemptions, please visit the MCT Portal by Pearson.

MCT status must be renewed each year to remain a member of the MCT Program. Verified proof of instructional skills is only required for your initial enrollment in the MCT Program.

Once you become a qualified MCT, you will not be required to complete an instructional skills program for your annual MCT renewal process, unless your MCT membership lapses.

Please Note: The MCT Onboarding Experience is currently only available in the English language. For prospective MCTs whose primary mode of instruction is in a language other than English, legacy ISCP Certificates will be honored through December 31, 2026. For more information, please visit MCT Onboarding Program | Microsoft Learn.
