Removed Comment He wasn't treated differently for being gay. He was treated differently because he wanted to be a healer and an explorer. His being gay wasn't even addressed until multiple episodes after the episodes showing his family treating him differently. They're not connected at all. Same thing with the fact that he's different than most klingons in being more passive and peaceful. Nothing to do with being gay because they were addressed in completely different episodes. In fact, the show *never* bluntly addressed the fact that he was gay. He just flirted with a dude and then started dating a guy. That seems pretty future utopian accepting to me for literally no one to point it out. The show's writers and producers ***didn't*** make a big deal about it. > indeed, that they made so much of the shows social interactions seem as if they were taking place today rather than in a more idealistic future, really rubbed me the wrong way. Removed Comment He's not weak, he's not timid and he's not frightened though. Do you have *any* examples of such behavior? Because the only thing he has ever demonstrated anxiety on is public speaking and in worrying his family would not accept him because he doesn't want to be a warrior. In every other moment in the series he has taken pretty decisive action. I cannot think of a single moment in the series, outside of the public speaking bit alone, where he came off as weak, timid or frightened. I did not ignore what you said. I am merely saying that I do not understand your opinions because, as I can see it, I do not see any examples of the behavior that you've claimed has been demonstrated. I am trying to understand your opinion. I am not dismissing it. If anything, I might accept your opinion and take it as my own because I would also not like that behavior as I am a gay man myself. I am literally just trying to understand your opinion and you keep insulting me. So, please. Removed Comment I’m still pretty conflicted here. Not only was the character pretty inconsistent (like all of the characters on the show), but I always imagined that a gay Klingon character (especially one in the 32nd century) wouldn’t really much differently than any other Klingon character. Never imagined that homosexuality in Klingon society would be treated much differently or that gay Klingons would act much differently than other Klingons. The fact that the show’s writers and producers made such a big deal about it— indeed, that they made so much of the shows social interactions seem as if they were taking place today rather than in a more idealistic future, really rubbed me the wrong way. And, as a gay man, I find the depiction of the gay character as weak, timid, and frightened - especially when that species is known for being strong, brave, and heroic - to be pretty insulting. by homes@piefed.world

Removed Comment You massively misunderstood what I said. I didn’t say he was being treated differently by other characters in the show, he was being treated differently by the writers and the producers in the show by being written as a weak, timid, frightened character, rather than how every other Klingon in the show and every other Star Trek show and every other Star Trek movie has ever been written. As strong, aggressive, etc. And it had nothing to do with this job or is interests either. And many store trek shows in the past, we have seen Klingon’s that have non-typical Klingon jobs. Klingon to healers, Klingon, who are lawyers, etc. But they still act like Klingons. And those episodes where they showed up, they very much do make a big deal about that.
