Maybe not, I don’t know how much he makes, there’s a lot I’d put up with if it could mean early retirement. If he’s really making 2.8m in two years then that’s a mil after taxes and there’s no reason he couldn’t retire at 40 and live a more modest lifestyle. Could be worth it.

I think this sort of thing happens in software engineering a lot… it doesn’t matter whether genAI tools are the right solution to a problem. Billionaires are throwing an alarming amount of money at this, so they are basically trying to get a slice of that pie by virtue signaling that they love genAI, even if they don’t think it’s that valuable.

My employer wants features delivered, I don’t have time to circlejerk about genAI.

Both IBM and Oracle I haven’t really worked with because they’re heavily used by massive companies. We had an Oracle database when I was in banking that was because we were self hosting a loan accounting system. IBM does backend data processing stuff for massive companies like American Express and Bank of America. All of the smaller shops I’ve worked in have built things on Microsoft’s stack.

Balatro should just be renamed to Flush, every single time I win it’s because I use the “discard until you have a flush” strategy, and augment that with Jupiter, wild cards, steel cards, and jokers that give bonuses for flushes or single suits.

It’s more that local authorities are offering incentives to big tech to bring in those data centers, ostensibly because they think it will benefit the area, but more likely because it is benefitting the local authorities personally through kickbacks or campaign donations.

With the amount of followers this guy has you’d think he could take a glace at the captions before publishing.

This is the first I’m hearing of Aurora, that seems promising. I’m guessing you’d use FDroid for anything that is available there but use Aurora for anything that is only on the Play Store?

Thoughts on pros and cons? Do you still install apps through the play store or are you using FDroid?
