(Ebook) Distorted Reality: Introduction to Negative Automatic Thoughts
In our daily lives, we are subjected to spontaneous negative thoughts which can shape how we feel and act. They are also known as Negative Automatic Thoughts (NATs) where they contribute to distorting our perceptions of reality. Much of the various classifications of NATs results in undesirable outcomes such as deteriorating social relations and diminished self-esteems. Through this book, you will learn about how our thoughts, feelings, and actions interact with one another and how we have the power to correct the common forms of cognitive distortions.Details of the thirteen different types of NATs will be covered. Also, the possibility of using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a way to challenge our cognitive distortions will be discussed. Unlike traditional therapies, CBT requires patients to be accountable for the success of their own treatments as the treatment will focus on introspection and the change of thought patterns. The unique concept of NATs and CBT was introduced in the 1960s and remains one of the most interesting topics in the field of psychology today.
