candlemass-snapback Some properly unique, fly by the seat of your pants metal. The combination of clean vocals with busy but breathable guitars leaves you with a lot to engage with. Brought to mind the best parts of later Emperor, or prog era Death with a much needed injection of chaos. Those wishing Scimitar had a more hard-hitting bottom end should be delighted as well. Favorite track: Sealing the Wound.

Brandon Corsair Wild, wonderful music. The most exciting extreme metal album I've heard in some time.

Impeach the mad king Favorite track: Jettatori.
Juan Valdeath
Juan Valdeath thumbnail
Juan Valdeath An excellent slab of somewhat technical, blackened, and thrashy death metal, highlighted by an incredibly versatile vocal performance by Uta Plotkin. Reminds of Ludicra, Aegnimatum, and perhaps Hammers of Misfortune.
alastingsunset

alastingsunset White knuckle music. A lithe and cathartic mixture of progressive black metal and technical death metal. Pushing, pulling, and dizzying in equal measures. An immersive album that rewards the detailed listens that you will want to give it. Favorite track: The Aftermath of the Flood.

Scarabaeus 00:28
SCARABAEUS A stain paints where the thorn lodged A reminder of the fullness of pain And the ripeness of its vacancy
2.
Jettatori 04:00
JETTATORI Shedding rays of destruction Everywhere you look From a piercing glance The sign is made You are jettatori Poor innocent You are jettatori Suspicions are gathering Like mists in the fall Your season is turning It's casting a pall Striking eyes Strike your eyes Before you do more harm With your piercing glance Misfortune surrounds you, jettatori Do you understand now, jettatori Suspicions are swelling They heave and they roll Your tide, it is rising It swallows you whole Old: indifferent Cold: recalcitrant Shameless, blameless Bold: vociferous Veiled: insidious Hidden, unbidden Turn away Cursed gaze Striking eyes Strike your eyes Before you do more harm
3.
Amphisbaena 03:42
AMPHISBAENA I don’t know which Torn in two Pulled in two Here I go Writhing in the detritus of cephalic excess Bloody circles Pieces here and there Under a mantle of skin Bound in Twisting tight I’m a lie Here I go Down below Now I know which Underground Not safe Not sound Shed my skin Begin again Twisting tight I’m a lie Face to face Look away Impossible to face the anarchic reflections Fractured, furious, fractal revelations Side by side Contradictions thrive Execrable, inexorable Cross left, cross right Knots pulled tight Had I known which I would never Have sacrificed one for the other
4.
Viaticum 03:43
Viaticum Fall from the tower All the way down Debased, unstable, baseless Disgraced, ungrateful, graceless Face encased in mud Mucosal morass holds fast Drowning ambition, suspicion Sinking unblinking, grasping at visions Upside or down, there's hardly a difference Pressing away between the shoulder blades An omen of a summons from above Over again Ever we end and begin Over again Over the edge and again Calling, lifting, gravity so grievous Leave us Wallowing in a leaden dolor Over again Ever we end and begin Over again Over the edge and again Forced ascent to the firmament Grasping, gasping mud Stretched from bestial to celestial Effortless spreading, bloodletting Reaching, amnestic, anemoneic Upside or down there never was a difference
5.
THE EMPTY CIRCLE You draw a circle Your chant is cyclical No time No mind An offering of wine A smoking ember A shadow stirring Mephitic vapors rise Your fears materialize No right No light A whisper in the wind A form from behind The empty circle Come with me, fool And travel to the other side
6.
they blew the flies from their lips before they spoke ragged, gaping, hungry, empty wait to gather up the edges and piece them together people make up stories that pour out their suffering let them spill out until they run clear
7.
SEALING THE WOUND The heavens seethe So I too, seethe Night upon night Mangled inexorably My dark pulse seeps My essence bleeds My fuliginous spirit Chaos enwreathed Time is standing still And is flowing fast Lurid as delirium Shall I wait like a spider in its web For some poor soul to take my place? Shall I sit, fat with pain Eager to spit poison? If I could escape I would be oblivion Soporific Cinereal Miasmic Oblivion I would sleep And dream of extinction The form I would take Would be of a snake The heavens seethe So I too, seethe Night upon night Night upon night Time is standing still And is flowing fast Lurid as delirium With no end in sight I will bite the hand of madness
8.
Make No Mark 03:23
MAKE NO MARK Make no mark Blow away like words in sand Take my spark Hold it, protect it, in your hand No armor can withstand Time's relentless fray Defenseless you must stand There's no way to stay Locked inside Never again to feel the pain Walk outside And feel the sting of the rain No armor can withstand Time's relentless fray Defenseless you must stand There's no way to stay Petrified, wretched Calcified, rusted Melt me, I'm frozen Mend me, I'm broken It's too dark Make your mark
9.
Sulphur 03:55
SULPHUR You burned me like sulphur You ate me like sulphur You covered me I was ochre Trapped in amber Deep in slumber You consumed me till I was nothing But ochre aching Burned away in your Grecian fire But now I use your filth To fumigate my soul To cleanse the cloak you smothered me in I lost myself I was eroded Eaten Slowly corroded You were yellow Breathing fire from your Poison bellows Flames stoked by sulphur You consumed me till I was nothing But ochre aching Burned away in your Grecian fire Now I use your filth To fumigate my soul To cleanse the cloak you wove You burned me like sulphur You ate me like sulphur
10.
THE AFTERMATH OF THE FLOOD Hear Yes Screams Where Far No Near Near Rage Chaos Fury Fear Run Flee For your life Fight against the tide Wild jaws open wide Run, river, run Fast to the sea Over your banks you go streaming Run, river, run River of blood Leave in your wake only screaming Gone Time rushes on Leaving behind all that you love Dissolved into infinity Broken apart Broken in pieces Fragments of ghosts rush past The smell of defeat Nothing but swamp in slow retreat Still you linger on here Knee-deep sunk in mud In the grip of spirits In the aftermath of the flood Gone Time rushes on Leaving behind all that you love Dissolved into infinity Grieve until you’re whole again And the screams are stilled in your head

about

LIVIDUS was founded in 2017 in the rainy gloom of Portland, Oregon. Their debut Scarabaeus is a showcase of intricate metal that restores the eccentric spirit of the 90s to the modern era. Led by the incomparable vocal talent of Uta Plotkin (ex-Witch Mountain), the album highlights her trademark seamless interplay between hauntingly clean vocals and savage screams. The current lineup is a powerhouse effort from a team of PNW veterans, featuring Christy Cather (Ludicra), Rob Shaffer (Uada, Dark Castle), and Michael Thompson (ex-Silver Talon).

Lyrically, the album focuses on the endurance of trauma and its aftermath, delivering a sound that avoids modern technical trends in favor of an older, more adventurous spirit akin to Voivod, Hammers of Misfortune, Death, and Nevermore. This is a rare project that successfully bridges the gap between the heavy, the ethereal, and the dissonant through a weird and adventurous lens.

This is the official release by Nameless Grave Records. All orders are expected to ship on or around April 17th, 2026.

Available Versions:

12" LP: High-quality vinyl available in Black and Limited Color variants. Includes an oversized 24"x12" folding insert.
