Rinse, Repeat

about

I wrote “Rinse, Repeat” while working a job loading and unloading trucks. Vanessa wrote the third verse about our car that needs air in its back passenger side tire every four days and it making us late to band practice.

lyrics

Wake up. Go to work. Do meaningless task
Go home. Lay in bed
Replay every conversation in my head
That made me sound like a fool

Wake up. Make the bed
Do the dishes. Check the clock
Why am I always late?
How many errands do I have to run before I die?

(chorus)

Caffeine to stay awake
poison to get to sleep
Rinse repeat daily
Until my body gives up

I got a job loading and unloading trucks
It’s unfulfilling. my body hurts
the pay is as close to nothing as legally allowed

Do the work. Cash the check
What the hell did I expect
from a high school diploma
I use to keep the kitchen table level

$1800 a month. 260 sq feet. No stove in unit.
Tootsie the landlord says take it or leave it
Proof of income/ credit check
No EVICTIONS!
How about just one, Tootsie?
Could ya find it in your heart to forgive me?

(Chorus)

There’s folks living on a couch beneath my fire escape
Hypodermic needles on the roof
Gotta climb over the passenger seat bc the door don’t work
The back right tire has a slow leak
That you’ll need to fill once a week
Just don’t waste your time in that giant eagle line on high street
That thing never works
Now I’m late to the only thing I’ve been looking forward to all week

Rinse. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat.
