The pan-Africanist ideal never died—it morphed into hybridised sonic fragments that connect Joburg to Nairobi via Lagos and Accra. One of our favourite evangelists of the continent’s far-reaching musical ingenuity is the Ghanaian American mixmaster Dj Boat. For his Africa Now mix, Boat curated a long list of bangers from Victony, Tyla, Uncle Waffles, Black Sherif and Ayra Starr, along with a bevy of other hitmakers across the African diaspora. “This mix was made with love,” Dj Boat says. “It is a representation of my love and passion for elevating the African music sound on a global stage. This mix is not about me as a DJ, it’s about giving the people what they want. I am here to serve the Africa Now community, and you will feel that when you tune in.” Hear the Dj Boat vision of Africa Now and check back each month for more one-of-a-kind mixes.
