Tell It to the Mountain, the collaborative album from producers Axel Boman and Superpitcher, was born from a hike to Sweden’s Helags Glacier. A three-day test of endurance, it left the pair physically exhausted but creatively inspired. Capitalizing on their natural high, they began making music that mirrors much of their hike: scenic, adventurous, collages of color and texture. But whereas the hike led them to the glacier, each of the album’s tracks wanders like its own trail with no fixed destination, only a drive to keep going until it can’t. Boman and Superpitcher navigate a lot of terrain, moving from alpine-air disco (“Helags”) and kaleidoscopic deep house (“True Crime”) to wistful ambient (“Trouble at the Top”) and resinous after-hours techno (“Latin Sherpa”), juxtaposing lush psychedelia with moody, heads-down grooves. They save their longest and trippiest track, “Hey It’s Me, I Love You,” for last, horns blazing in a mad dash toward the summit.
