LINAJE

LINAJE

In just a few years’ time, the South Texas pair known as Hermanos Espinoza achieved a certain prominence in música mexicana circles for their rousing corridos and norteño stylings. Yet as their album LINAJE demonstrates, the brethren’s connection to this music goes hand in hand with a reverent respect for the culture fostered by those who came before them. With production by Peso Pluma go-to Ernesto “Neto” Fernandez, their 15-track effort emphasises a strong connection as they further solidify their fraternal bond and hone their shared talents. Kicking off with a decidedly modern blend of accordion and atmospherics on “29:11”, they persist with their contemporary approach and themes on songs like “LA MONEDA”, “MÁS RICO MAÑANA” and the closing “FREESTYLE”. The corridos here carry existential weight, as on “PESO” and the rags-to-riches parable “MEJORES PASOS”, though they still treat the more heartfelt material like “SE NOS HIZO TARDE” with an appropriate sense of urgency and gravity.
