Love or Lack Thereof

Love or Lack Thereof

The Canadian singer-songwriter broke through in 2015 with a voice that was seasoned beyond her 19 years and wry, thoughtful lyrics about growing pains. Now 29 years old, the five-time Juno Award winner commemorates her career’s 10-year anniversary with a live album reimagining songs from her catalogue as jazz and soul records. Recorded over three days, Love or Lack Thereof focuses explicitly on themes of love and heartbreak, reinterpreting 2021’s “Shapeshifter” as a Spaghetti Western slow-burner with a new verse from Nelly Furtado, and stripping down her 2017 Zedd duet “Stay” to a grainy neo-soul ballad. Cara also shares one new song, presented two ways—“I’m in Trouble”, a jazzy ode to an all-consuming crush, appears first as a solo number, then as a duet with kindred spirit Norah Jones.
