Composed with Grammy-winning producer Andre “DreBombay” Harris, Xowié’s ALLO (Deluxe) EP is a portrait of a promising singer shaped just as much by the gospel her family introduced her to as by the emotive and truth-hearkening work of icons like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Gil Scott-Heron. With a few amendments to the original ALLO EP, she displays an increased zestfulness, as heard on “Make You Mine”, where she sings, “You ain’t going home until I make you mine.” Elsewhere, she’s demanding to be won over with discernible action on “Brown Sugar” and then trading quips about commitment and sacrifice with Ghanaian Afro-dancehall star Stonebwoy on “No One”. Still, Xowié acknowledges that romance can be a field of landmines, projecting her rejection of someone offering her the bare minimum on “My Time”.
