Following the “bittersweet” October 2025 announcement of their intention to split, Kodaline make good on their promise to end on a high with their fifth and final studio album, We Were Only Young. The record plays like a long zoom out on the four-piece’s decade-plus of poignant indie pop—credits rolling over a slow fade to black. Opener “Who Will Save You Now” sets momentum, with a skyscraping hook and verses that recall Queen’s “We Are the Champions”, giving way to a solid wave of emotive soft-rock anthems. Among them, “Without You”—a tender love song set to stripped-back acoustics—and folk-tinted carouser “Vultures” emerge as highlights, closing out on sparse, melancholic ballad “The One for Me”. It’s a memorable final bow.
