POPS

POPS

Japanese rock-band phenomenon Mrs. GREEN APPLE (aka MGA) has been on the radar of global anime fans for years. Forming independently in 2013 and making their major-label debut under EMI Records in 2015, the Tokyo-based group rocketed to domestic and international recognition with their theme-song work for Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V and Fire Force. In 2026, they reached new heights with “Brand New”, the official Japanese theme song for superhero blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the opening salvo on 16-track album POPS. On POPS, MGA’s sixth full-length album, the group slides between orchestral, electronic and rock influences to tell a textured story of contemporary Japan. A connection to popular TV and film remains. The delicate and melodic “lulu.” is the opening theme for the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and the sentimental, strings-led track “Wind and Town” served as the theme for “morning drama” Kaze, Kaoru. But POPS doesn’t need a visual-media vehicle to get its big emotions across. On lead single “Kyohan”, which roughly translates to “accomplice”, Motoki Ohmori’s bright vocals soar over agile jags of electric guitar.
