The Dotty Show
The Dotty Show isn’t just something you listen to—it’s something you’re part of. “We’ve created a community, and it feels like a family,” host Dotty Charles tells Apple Music. “Every day, at the same time, we link up and throw a little two-hour party.” Recorded live from London—but listened to all across the world—the show is a celebration of the best R&B, rap, dancehall, Afrobeats, and more. “The mission is playing music that you know moves people,” says Dotty. “The tapestry of Black music is so vivid. It’s this beautiful, wondrous thing: If you love it, I’m going to immerse you in it. And if you’re curious about it, I can hold your hand and help you discover music that you’ll love.” Dotty gets a buzz from helping you find your next favorite song—and the artist you’re about to be obsessed with. “Introducing people to their new favorite artist is always a joy,” says the host, who has form when it comes to predicting who’s about to make it big: Artists including Central Cee, Tems, and FLO have all chosen to do their first-ever radio interviews with her. “It’s the firsts that always feel better than the biggest ones,” she says (though she’s done plenty of those too). “You get to guide them through a very important part of the journey.” No matter who she’s invited in, she’s clear that before anything else—radio host, tastemaker, former artist herself—she’s just a music fan asking the questions she knows music fans all around the world will want to know the answers to. “You can approach interviews like a critic, or you can approach them like a journalist,” she says. “I just approach them like a fan.” Join the party from Monday to Thursday on Apple Music 1 from 7 am LA, 10 am NYC, and 3 pm LDN to hear all of that—and more—on The Dotty Show.
