Slayers363 the Jester of Structured Nonsense, Swords and Sorcery make me Laugh.

The Slayers is my all time favorite series & Lina Inverse is my favorite protagonist.

I'll be friends with anyone that wants to talk about shared anime or interests. Friends not acquaintances.

•Really like medieval, fantasy, comedy anime's.
•Love metal music, and a wide variety of other genre.
•90s anime art style is my favorite.
•Favorite Anime troupe the anime fall.
•Always seeking to talk about the Slayers.
•Like making grid profile page pictures, want one?

What I like about the enemy of all who live, the great bandit killing, dragon spooking and queen of destruction Lina Inverse. In dire situations she shows great tenacity, leadership, and wisdom. She's flat....tening bandits as a past time activity. Always chasing what she wants, and never backing down from a fight. Even with the comedic violence she dishes out on her friends she still cares about them. She'll literally risk the existence of the world for the one she loves. Shes the one with the plan, thinking on her feet for the best solution no matter how dire the situation is. Her comedic temper always lightens any tension, and her gluttonous desire for food. She rather fight dark demon lords than deal with her own sister. She wont stand down or be pushed around, she wants it her way and nothing will get in her way (unless its her sister). Might accidentally create "small" amounts of city wide collateral destruction, or is easily provoked to blast people with powerful spells. But despite how she may appear as an evil sorceress she'll do the right thing when it counts. Despite that she's no fighter for justice, or a righteous force for good unless the price is right. Also Lina will ignore almost any pain to get back at people who treat her poorly, be it curses or anti-magic shock collars Lina isn't backing down. Lina is clever, smart, cunning and knows the ins and outs of magic and can learn the mechanics of most magic given the right amount of time. Lina inspires me time to time in life, look up to her positive traits. Not so much the destructive side. Lina is awesome to me, have yet to find another character that can match that fiery personality. Lina is very original, far as female protagonist's go shes my number one favorite. Courage, Lina! Don't give up, Lina!

Anime quotes that stuck with me (possible spoilers):

"Don't just think about the ones you've lost! You can't get back what you've lost! What is it you still have?" -Jimbe (One Piece English Subs)

When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!? No! It's when they are forgotten.
-Dr Hiriluk (One Piece English Subs)

"Where monsters rampage I'm there to take them down. Where treasure glitters I'm there to claim it. Where an enemy rises to face me victory will be mine!"
-Lina Inverse (The Slayers English Dubs)

"Look even if you've only got a one percent chance of winning, but you convince yourself you're gonna lose, that one percent becomes zero percent."
-Lina Inverse (The Slayers English Dubs)

"Even when holding back, hit like you mean it"

It’s certainly true that having different versions of something makes it incredibly entertaining.

I haven’t stopped going, but there are things that bother me, such as the fact that the church these days is a business rather than a temple of learning.
I say this because there are churches where they ask for your tithe and offering straight after the worship service (which implies they don’t want you to leave without giving them money).

Re:Zero is undoubtedly the best isekai out there at the moment; some people say the novel is boring, but the anime brought it to life.

Phew, *Made in Abyss* is another of the best anime I’ve ever seen – I love it.

Well, mate, I’ve never stopped being a fan of films and TV series; every now and then I take a break from anime and watch a good series. For example, this year I’ve watched:
- Silo (all three series)
- Reacher (series 4)
- House of the Dragon (I’ve only watched the first series)
- Pantheon (American animated series)
- The Amazing Digital Circus

To be honest, there are times when I get bored of anime and—boom—I take a break. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go to the cinema to see *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* because on the day I wanted to go, I came down with the flu 😷. And well, recently I’ve been buying a few things for my phone, like a case and a wireless headset, and I’ve blown all my money 😔 (By the way, here in Venezuela a cinema ticket 🎟️ isn’t that expensive – it’s 3 USD, but on ‘popular days’ it’s 1.5 USD)

Oh man I don't know. At least 10 I think? It's been years since I pulled them out. Everything is in storage since I pretty much live on the road. Also they're all JP print originals just to be clear, so I haven't actually read them. I just started collecting them when I was building my merch collection back in the day. And yeah Tokyopop did the original 8 book run before they went under. There's a new 5 book hardcover collector's omnibus edition that has volumes 1-15 you can pick up for about $30 USD each on Amazon if you're interested. I snatched those up as they were released.

The Seikai series (Crest/Banner) is a space opera so it's fairly serious. It has some lighthearted moments and dry/sarcastic humor but nothing really slapstick. It deals with the complications of war and the way it affects those from different social statuses. Things like that. The lore is deep though. The Abh (genetically engineered humans) even have their own language and it is such a focal point of the universe that there's even a glossary for it. If you like Gundam you may enjoy it. Sunrise produced both anime-wise.

As for audiobooks, no. To be honest, I don't really like being read to. I prefer to do it in my head with music in the background. The only things I listen to on the road are my music and some podcast commentary. Aside from that, I try to focus on not killing anybody (although the typical driver makes that its own challenge.)

Yeah I noticed that right off the bat. Gonna be honest, doesn't bother me. I know fan service is not for everyone and I know her canonic age would make it off-putting for some folks, but when it comes to the realm of fiction, I just don't look into it that hard. I mean, believe it or not, even Zumi-chan has lewded Lina and Amelia on occasion so I can't hold it against Asahi and of course it had to have had Kanzaka-sensei's approval too.

Actually, yes. Here's one that Rui did for 2020.

I don't use it though because cropping for a pfp would kinda butcher it and her watermark is all over it lol. My options would expand quite a bit if I didn't limit myself to official art only but it's not that big a deal.

It's alright. I just can't promise instant replies as I'm always pretty busy. Just got back from Canadia and about to take a load from PA to MN. Since I imagine you're going to ask at some point, I'll post an old comment from a convo I had with someone else. It contains a summary of everything Slayers I've got. I did post some pics but the host I used died so they're gone and I don't think I had them saved.

Yes, my dearly departed grandmother is part of the reason I got hardcore into Slayers and anime in general. That is its own story lol.

Majority of the time when I buy DVD sets like that, I’m just trying to get myself into the show. I feel like if I spend at least some money on it, it kind of incentivizes me to actually try to watch it and get into it. I watched like the first episode, though, and I didn’t think it was bad. It definitely gave me some One Piece vibes with the sea monster in the middle of the town harbor.

Same, I just typed the name and then typed “mal” at the end of it. Then it comes up.

The game plays like a Dynasty Warriors clone. The hardest part about it is trying to get through Hell Mode. I kind of just gave up on the 90th floor. I did kind of want to get the platinum in it. Oh well. Rip

I used to go to GameStop when I was a kid, but I haven’t gone in a long time. I know people post that they have cool figures and stuff. I wouldn’t mind checking it out sometime.

I mean, the only field trip I really remember is the aquarium one because I was literally sick all night, throwing up. I still went anyway because I was so excited to go to the aquarium. I think we went to the zoo one time as well, but I don’t really remember much about that one.

True, I really like that episode as well. The teacher just has a very funny personality about her. My favorite in that show is Sakaki with her lovable personality with animals. In the last chapter of Yotsuba&, you actually get to see Osaka grown up and in her new job. Hopefully he shows the other characters one day

I can’t remember if I mentioned it, but Azumanga is actually chillin on YouTube complete series

Random question but how much of slayers do you have to watch to get into the newer series from 2015 I think. I have been thinking about trying that series again, but I’m just not sure. I do remember naga ova don’t connect at all with the newer series

EnderVsqz626 Sep 4, 1:25 AM
Thanks, I’m doing fine for now; it’s the internet 🛜 that’s holding me up, but I’m making progress bit by bit.

To be honest, mate, I didn’t know about the different versions of the Tree of Life either (I’d only heard of the one in the Bible) – as they say, you learn something new every day.

It’s true, that’s the reality: one pastor has ruined it for everyone, and look, I’ll tell you something – there are far worse things than anime.
Coincidentally, I started watching *House of the Dragon* a month ago, and boy, is there a lot in there: sex, betrayals, LGBT content… But guess what? The pastors have it in for anime (and the odd American animated series or two).

Well, isekai has nowadays become the go-to fantasy anime by default, and people have turned their backs on anime that are actually pure fantasy (or dark fantasy). I watch very little isekai (I don’t hate it, but I know I’m very selective with that genre).

*Made in Abyss* is mostly dark fantasy (rather than pure fantasy); the one that falls into the classic fantasy category is *Dungeon Meshi*.

The joropo is an entertaining dance.
NTAD Sep 2, 1:47 PM
No, unfortunately not. Though I've been meaning to get around to it. I do own many original print copies of the OG and Special LNs though. I started collecting them a little over 20 years ago. The only version I've actually read though was the Tokyopop translation of the original run and that of course is far outdated because of new volumes since being published. I admittedly don't keep up with LNs as much as manga and anime, though I do have a copy of Banner of the Stars with me that I'm reading while on the road (I'ma trucker).

I haven't read it yet. I think this artist worked on the Taimanin series? Would explain the ecchi tag lol. At only 4 chapters I guess I should go and knock it out. At a glance, it looks okay as an art style but it doesn't hold a candle to any of Zumi-chan's work.
garrett5980 Aug 31, 11:35 PM
Sounds like I should probably play the game instead of watching the anime. I know they got like an upscale version on the PlayStation digital store

Fairy Tail, Ajin, Flowers of Evil, Negima, Sakura Wars, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Princess Tutu, and Rose of Versailles. Just to name a couple of them lol. The only issue with some of these is that I haven’t watched them because they’re long series, or I have to watch like two things before watching the DVD, like Negima and Sakura Wars.
Also started watching the first season of d-gray man. Meh it’s ok so far. Hopefully it gets better.

I agree. Sometimes it brings up the English name, and other times it doesn’t lol. MAL is ugh sometimes.

Berserk:band of the hawk is the name of it. The Dreamcast game of Berserk is also pretty fun. It’s like an hour long to beat.

For Gravity Rush, I was playing it digitally through the PS Plus service. The first one is expensive because it was a GameStop exclusive for whatever reason lol. So it’s like $100. Smh.

Nope, I’ve never really played any PC games. I remember one time in middle school on Newgrounds, there was this rip-off Halo game. It seemed like everybody was playing it instead of doing schoolwork lol.
garrett5980 Aug 30, 11:41 AM
True. I’ll have to play Wild Arms one day. The only thing that held back the anime was the convoluted story toward the end. Typical crazy JRPG ending plot lol.

Here’s a link to Dragon’s Heaven: https://myanimelist.net/anime/3135/Dragons_Heaven

A lot of the shows I get interested in, I just throw on my hold list. A lot of my DVD/Blu-ray sets are on there as well.

Here’s a link to Berserk: The Flame Dragon Knight: https://berserk.fandom.com/wiki/Berserk:_The_Flame_Dragon_Knight

The Berserk PS4 game was pretty fun if you haven’t played it yet. I’m glad I picked it up for around $40. I’m sure since the disc got taken off physical , it’s gone up in price. Have you had any of your physical copy games go up in price? I was surprised when I recently looked at Drakengard 3 lol. I felt bad for how much I paid during the pandemic

Kurotowa, like in the first scene where you really meet him, he’s with the giant monster where he pushes one of his allies off a cliff and kills him. Then there’s another scene where his allies are escaping on a plane and he shoots them down. Idk, he just has a lot of scenes like that.

Mutard, I actually had a time where I listened to it, but I don’t really remember it lol.

I’ll check out the links you sent. Funny enough, I already have Hawk liked on my YouTube page. Probably the album artwork caught my eye.
NTAD Aug 30, 11:38 AM
Are you referring to the outfit Naga has on the cover of Special 27? Hmmm...nothing that I can recall in official style. It's honestly easier finding her in different themed outfits through fanart but even then I don't know of anything pirate themed. The closest I can think of would probably be that scene from Next where she's dressed like a bandit and they're trying to "sell" Amelia.
garrett5980 Aug 29, 12:59 AM
I’ve been watching this anime called “wild guns”. It’s based on the PS1 game, but I really like the ending song. It has this like punk vibe to it

https://youtu.be/MzKPOgOhS7s?is=kaO8u8qgWMtUo75U

Also, I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this, but have you ever watched shin-Chan? You should watch episode 4. See if you like it or not
garrett5980 Aug 28, 12:49 AM
Saber Marionette J, Birth, Outlanders, Aura Battler Dunbine, Dragon Heaven, Eat-Man, Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals OVA from 1994. Uhhh, I think Grandeek had some cyberpunk themes, but I can’t remember. Rip Juu Ou Sei.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever finish my Plan to Watch considering I have so many shows that are 100+ episodes. It’s whatever, though. I’m kind of satisfied with everything I’ve watched. There aren’t too many where I’m like, “I NEED to watch that” or something.

I swear they need to bring back the Cyber Team in Akihabara and Saber Marionette J art style. I honestly really miss it. It just had such a unique style to it.

I mean, I don’t think it’d be weird or anything. I always question whether I should keep that gaming stuff on my profile, but I’m too lazy to change it.

Are you talking about the prostitute chicks in the Stone Tower arc? I think I know who you’re talking about, but I’d have to look at my book. I have to reread it again sometime. I really enjoyed that series.

Here’s a link to that light novel:
https://a.co/d/0bqzOYu

Yeah, when Kushana meets her brother at the airfield, they start fighting, and he’s in the plane and gets injured. Kushana and him have to wait out the bug storm that’s also approaching, which ends up killing her brother when his plane crashes.

Bands with awful artwork? Hmmm. Death metal albums can be kind of ridiculous because they go for edgy gore covers or whatever.

Idk, some Butthole Surfers covers are weird, but that’s not surprising lol.

Hbu with weird album covers?

Also, a heavy metal Japanese band came up on my Instagram recently, and I saved it to make sure to send it to you. Hopefully you don’t already know this band lol.

It is indeed. I tend to only use Araizumi's art as pfps and I rotate based on the season. This was under her studio name Ruirui Kikaku and is from what I believe was a project she worked on for Comiket once upon a time.
Here's the uncropped version of the one I used as well as a promo page version and an sns post she made back in '21 with her watermark and a summer greeting message done in watercolor style. These are pretty large lol.

garrett5980 Aug 25, 3:16 AM
True. Yeah, I think you’re thinking of Robot Chicken lol. Have you seen the horror movie parody called Blood and Honey?

Fantasy and cyberpunk would be a unique one. I know I’ve seen a lot of shows where it’s like a nuclear holocaust happens, and they’re left with cyberpunk-style weapons in a fantasy-themed world. Do you mean more shows like that?

I think you might like Battle Athletes. The only thing I’m not sure you’d like about it is that it has kind of a yuri vibe going on with the main character and a few of the other characters. I enjoyed it for the most part. I thought it was pretty unique, in the sense that I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anime do an Olympic/cyberpunk kind of theme.

I might try to watch Najica next after finishing Cyber Team in Akihabara. I’m not sure how I feel about this show, considering the characters’ ages. Some of the fan service scenes are honestly kind of disgusting.”it did tone it down around episode 7” And of course, they throw a perverted old man into it as well lol. The one thing I do like about it is the “PataPi,” which are these lifelike dolls that turn into “Diva,” highly powerful, adult-sized armored warriors that fight against the people trying to take their PataPi. Also, this show has gotten really dark with some of the characters’ backstories, which I wasn’t expecting at all.

Yeah, I guess I was kind of stupid to say you’ve seen all the artwork. I only said that because I know you’re a fan of it. Next time I make a grid, I’ll try to make one like yours with more pictures on it.

I’m trying to picture who that is in Berserk, and I can’t think of them. What chapter are you on? I’ll have to pull up my deluxe volume and look at it. Have you read the flame night light novel? I think you might like that one

Hmmm, I guess Aizen, that annoying girl from Shield Hero, and for the longest time Panther Zero, until I watched Cutie Honey F lol. Kurotowa from Nausicaä too. I wish he had a more cruel death scene, considering what he did to a lot of his allies. Most shows usually try to kill off the villain at the end, honestly. I’m having a hard time thinking of someone who didn’t die at the end of the show. Who would you pick?

Found this really cool slayers artwork for the promotional music CD

I found some more heavy metal songs you might like from Instagram. These are basically showing off cool album artwork.

Hey, how are you? I hope you’re well.
Sorry for the delay – I’ve been busy with the annual challenge, as I still need to watch 30 anime to complete it and I’ve only got four months left until the end of the year.

Well, regarding the spear, even I hadn’t paid it any attention 🤣, so I do agree with you on that. Having looked into it thanks to what you told me, I can see that the spear has had the same design in several productions; I’ve attached some evidence:

Well, every religion attributes a different meaning and origin to things.
For example:
In Christianity, that would be the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, the tree that gave Adam and Eve the realisation that they were naked 🫣

And indeed, the tree has a different origin:
The Tree of Life is a sacred symbol and a universal archetype found in numerous cultures, religions and mythologies, representing the connection between the earth, the heavens and the origin of existence.

Presence in Cultures and Beliefs

  • Norse mythology: Yggdrasil, the sacred ash tree that links the nine worlds.

  • Jewish Kabbalah: It consists of ten spheres (sefirot) that explain divine creation and the spiritual path.

  • Ancient religions: It appears in biblical texts (Genesis) and in Middle Eastern traditions as a source of immortality or wisdom.

  • Modern use: It is a very popular design in jewellery, tattoos and home décor to bring good luck, harmony and family unity.

Well, Latin American Christians view anime in this way because of a Christian pastor or prophet who said that Pokémon and Digimon were evil.

Incidentally, it’s also considered evil for the simple reason that the Japanese are Buddhist and this can be seen in many anime, yet we Christians who watch anime don’t really care (I’m speaking for myself here, but I reckon many others feel the same way).

On ‘fantasy vs isekai’
I largely agree. Ever since the otaku genre went global, isekai has become the gateway to any fantasy story. Why? Because it’s a narrative shortcut: the character arrives in another world and the author doesn’t have to explain the rules, history or geopolitics — the viewer discovers them alongside the protagonist. It’s functional, but it often replaces world-building with power-ups and transplanted otaku humour.

‘Pure’ fantasy (like Grimgar, Made in Abyss, Frieren, Dungeon Meshi) still exists and is usually richer. The difference is that in those stories, the world was already there before the character arrived.

So yes, give Grimgar a go — but keep some tissues to hand 🫡

As for dance, we have the joropo.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
