This was a great short experience, despite encountering a bug where the rifle wouldn't fire, most likely user error though as it was just fine trying again. Really digging your games, keep up the good work!
Despite my grumblings in my video, I had a good time with this and an even better time editing it! Watch it if you want a laugh. The "running out of ammo" bit really brought a sense of realism to the whole ordeal, even if it irked me in the moment.
This game is nice. though there's a detail in the story that was inconsistent, specifically on the 'rabbits'. but the overall story is still intact. i also notice the BGM audio is going on and off, kinda ruining the immersion for a bit. there's also this issue on when interacting with one of the characters, making it hard because the 'talk' prompt is not popping up even when I am looking at the character. it took a moment to finally interact with it.
The family does have the hereditary slow and concise speaking coursing through the family, dialogue was probably longer than the entire action segments lol. Not bad though 3rd game.
Winter Takes All builds a surprisingly effective rug-pull by hiding a monster horror game behind a mundane winter chore simulator. Watching the playthrough, the slow-burn escalation from routine family errands to sudden dread is easily its strongest asset.
You play as a young boy in a snowy cabin completing daily tasks to help your family survive the cold—first gathering vegetables from the garden, then checking forest traps, and eventually learning to hunt with a rifle. What begins as a calm, day-by-day loop quickly spirals on Day 4 when a routine hunt erupts into a fight for survival against wild beasts and a horrifying discovery back home.
The game excels at subverting expectations. The lighthearted target practice with the rifle on Day 3 makes the sudden violence on Day 4—when wolves attack and you return home to find bloody footprints—hit much harder. The moment the background music cuts out right before things turn sour creates a genuinely tense atmosphere.
However, there is clear room to grow. The player camera height is set awkwardly low, making you feel tiny, and the movement speed is floaty and overly fast for a grounded atmospheric game. The voice synthesis/text-to-speech audio also shifts accents mid-sentence, which caused unintentional laughter during moments meant to be serious. Additionally, the final monster encounter and abrupt ending cut off very quickly, leaving little room for player agency or defense before the end screen.
A solid, 15-minute indie horror vignette for fans of atmospheric thrillers that use routine to build tension before pulling the rug out. Worth playing if you enjoy short, punchy narrative horror experiences.
3.5 / 5 stars — Strong atmospheric concept and effective tonal twist, held back slightly by floaty movement, low camera height, and voice audio quirks.
I wish there was more to the game, it honestly felt like it was missing something. I also didn't like how slow chatting with the family was. Not too terrible of a game though, keep it up
game is kinda bad. sorry bro, but story is bad, monster is terrible, gameplay (hunting) is bad, ambiance is kinda decent but could be better. i think you could have made it scarier, built up the tension, and gave it a better ending if it was worked for longer. feels super cheap, but not the indie horror cheap. just cheap.
maybe not as scary as I expected but I had a great time playing! Love it when games make all the bits just pour out and make the shenanigans ensue. Kepp up the good work! Made video if you want to check it out :3
Very well-done! I'm agreeing with some other posts stating to up the horror a bit. A little bit can go a long way. (Background stuff, SFX, music tension). But overall great game!
Not a bad game, but the horror only shows up towards the end. It would be nicer to have the wolfs show up as early as day 1 with a gradual build up to the end.
This was a great experience! It was short but very interesting. I loved my very supportive family and the moment I heard what was in the woods with us I nearly jumped out of my skin! Keep making more of these! If you like, check out the video on my channel. And I'll be taking a look at your other games as well!
Lovely game! I had fun playing it. For some reason I couldn't find the deer after I scared it away on my first run so I had to restart, guess it ran over the hill lol

I for sure didn't expect that ending. I HAD ONE JOB TO PROTECT MY FAMILY LOL! Great game was fun and kept me interested the whole time.

Well done, love the idea- just gotta crank up the horror a bit 😁
Honestly a fun lil game, don’t think it is really a horror game, but it’s worth a playthrough.
I wasnt counting on running out of bullets XD

I guess winter really did take all! Great job!
Buen juego
Short but not too bad! Really solid game for sure with a awesome premise that builds into something sinister. Made a video on it.
10/10 GAME!!
Excellent game.
