2 days of coding, learning, and

fun with free food and prizes!

Welcome to OCSEFhacks!

OCSEFhacks is a 2 day event taking place April 26-27, at the Discovery Cube @ Santa Ana.

High schoolers and middle schoolers will collaborate to build innovative apps & games to share with the world. We'll provide mentorship, free meals & drinks, and places to work.

After hacking is finished, judges and participants will pick the best projects and awards will be handed out!

Prompt

Create any project that addresses one or more of the UN's 17 sustainable development goals. Projects should be creative, use computer science in some way, and be practical. We are not neccesarily looking for fully designed products - but we do expect a working MVP (Minimum Viable Product). This prompt is fairly open ended, so be creative!

Note: You may not start working on your project before the event. All code must be written during the duration of the event.

Tracks

We have 2 overall tracks at the event for different skills levels:

Novice: Low coding exerience. <2 years of programming experience recommended (Which is totally fine! We all start somewhere!). We have workshops at the event to help with programming
Senior: Intermediate to advanced coding experience. 2+ year of programming experience recommended.

FAQ

Hacking? Isnt that illegal?

Nope! Hacking was first used at MIT to describe an interaction with a computer. Just like those internet pioneers, we will "hack" to create innovative apps, games, and websites!

How Much Does It Cost?

Absolutley nothing! We believe that all high schoolers should be able to pursue computer science for free.

What Should I Bring?

Anything you need to hack! Anything from a laptop to a RaspberryPi is accepted. However, we dont recommend bringing external monitors, as we are not sure how many available outlets we will have.

What If I Can't Eat ___?

All dietary restrictions will be met. As of now, we do not have a detailed menu as yet, as we are still collecting sponsors. We will send out a form to collect dietary restrictions soon.

Who Can Participate?

Any current students in high school. If you are under/over that age, shoot us an email & we'll see what we can do.

What If I Dont Know How To Code?

Dont worry! All skill levels are welcome. We will have knowledgable staff to help you with any coding qualms you may have!

What Do I Make?

Anything! Websites, games, apps, hardware, and more. Judges will rate projects based on creativity!

Who is supervising this?

We're an independently-organized group of high schoolers sponsored by the international non-profit, Hack Club. They will be supervised by us, and a team of adults.
