about

“Driving to Destruction” began life when I was sixteen years old, though it has taken many years - and many miles - to fully arrive at its final form.

On AutoMoto Animus, the piece unfolds in two connected sections, the second emerging as “Enigmatic Terminus” on side two. In many ways, it forms the central thematic axis of the album itself: motion without certainty, momentum without clarity.

Are we on the right path? Are we driving out of control?
And really, where are we going?

The song doesn't pretend to know the answer. It only keeps driving.

lyrics

DRIVING TO DESTRUCTION

You pull so close to the cliff
You move so close to the brink
The first gear's stuck in the last
The exit coming too quick

Automoto Animus - Enigmatic Terminus
Terminal Tempestuous

The wind blows dust in your eyes
The danger only increases
You hear the wails and the cries
The car it falls into pieces
The car goes by

It's way too late for advice
And no one seems to be steering
I'd like to think we'll survive
But we all know what we're nearing
So we just wait for the crash
To bridge the gap to existence
Who will have the last laugh
Long live the resistance

And who is coming to rescue me
The jaws of life refuse to speak
When are we going to be set free
A hamster running can hardly be
The Road is tough, but so are we

Driving to destruction
This is something far more furious
Driving to destruction
This is much much much more serious

Automoto Animus - Enigmatic Terminus
Terminal Tempestuous

We race out of sight, we move out of time
The lanes change their sides when there's no disguise
Will you torment my life, will you forget the fight
Will you give me the ride - and drive drive drive
We're driving, driving to atone
We're driving into the unknown
