“Driving to Destruction” began life when I was sixteen years old, though it has taken many years - and many miles - to fully arrive at its final form.
On AutoMoto Animus, the piece unfolds in two connected sections, the second emerging as “Enigmatic Terminus” on side two. In many ways, it forms the central thematic axis of the album itself: motion without certainty, momentum without clarity.
Are we on the right path? Are we driving out of control?
And really, where are we going?
The song doesn't pretend to know the answer. It only keeps driving.

Excellent album, especially the title track. Very complex arrangements with definite hints of Renaissance. I'd love to see Annie Haslam wander on stage to join Christina Booth on the title track. What can I say about Big Big Train that I haven’t said before?
This album took a little while to grow on me but by the time I saw it live I was in love with its humongous, over-egged pomposity! They do it all with such passion, excitement and amazing musicianship.
