Marshall and de-escalate situation and provide medical aid to anyone marching, so I of course called some teenagers with trump 2028 flags a child molestor with my megaphone down the street from a playground. It was pretty safe. Megaphone are awesome for protests. Great counter heckler measure and another safety Marshal had a megaphone and we having a cross street conversation about removing diapers don.

Given the events happening in the world, I find that many people are trying to find a way to have agency and an effect the state of the world. I believe I have found a few options that anyone, anywhere in the world can use and will be generally seen as a benefit to their citizens and policy makers regardless of ideology, while reducing the power of authoritarian governments. Given that the “No Kings” protest is today, I thought it would be a good time to present one.

Currently I am reading The origins of totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt and I was asking about parallels in modern US society. I noticed something odd. While questions about historical facts are answered definitively and accurately, questions relating to January 6th are answered with some sort of “,oh well people don’t agree” garbage.
Yeah, so this is my letter to the Oregonian after I attended a Labor Against ICE rally in Portland, a couple of blocks from my own apartment actually. Speeches from folks in labor, then we walked down to the ICE building.
Attended another anti ice protest this time in Fort Walton Beach Florida, definitely red area, and it went great. The turnout was around 30 people, but it has some amenities like a speaker to play music and a table with lemonade and cookies. Crazy to see the so well put together. Also there where extra signs for participants.
I’ve been thinking about these 1 day strikes and no shopping days we’ve been having. The economic blackouts seem to not have much effect, I’ve seen it compared to a day of bad weather like we recently had with the snow and ice. Likewise, the 1 day strikes aren’t achieving an actual loss of revenue that is enough to lead to change. Most Americans can’t go on strike long-term as we live paycheck to paycheck, we don’t have savings and we don’t have mutual aid networks in place. Perhaps doing a nationwide slowdown would be more effective as we would actually be decreasing profits for the rich. It is something that could pick up steam instead of fizzle out. We can combine this with very clear demands instead of a general I don’t like this admin vibe
So ICE stays at hotels, and while it’s tempting to pull a fire alarm at 3am if you figure out which one they are staying at, what if we did a national boycott on any hotel that let’s them stay there? Hell it could be an international effort. Companies hate being hit in the wallet and bad press, and a lot of people saying “I won’t stay at Blahblah hotel chain they let ice in” would put the squeeze on them.
We all need to email any and all entities, including local leadership and non-profits and urge them to endorse this shut down! This would be so impactful and it already has so much endorsement!

A good many in congress claim to support veterans. (Some even are veterans themselves) Remind them that veterans, veterans families and active duty soldiers are being deported and yet they still don’t speak out against ICE; worse yet they voted to deport even more of them by massively increasing ICE’s funding. The most cowardly act, refusing to even speak up or acknowledge the truth that they were wrong
I feel a lot of stuff has not had nearly enough coverage considering. Like the no kings day was huge and it only got mention day of and it blows me away they actually mentioned upcoming ones even if it is same day. Granted I would think the fediverse would be like the core area for planning with this stuff but based on what gets updated its kinda an after thought. At least from what I can see. Im regularly doing searches to see if there is any activity and its pretty sparse. Granted though there is a lot of individual things going on in many locals and many places to possibly post. Although its not like its not bot freindly for multiposting. Its like so many communities were made but whoever made them sorta put up the mission accomplished banners after creation.
Some key steps I take from this: identify decision makers / funders, coordinate organizations to campaign, and perform sustained protests and civil disobedience. Working to close concentration camps seems potentially more feasible than fighting armed goons. ICE conveniently provides a list of their locations so you can see what's in your state.

Just a quick photo we took of the protest. Lots of support from local cars too, even when waiting in heavy traffic due to the protest! Only saw about 3 red hats. The Governor* declared a state of emergency for a completely peaceful protest. Lots of good citizens providing free water and picking up trash when the nearby trash cans had overflown. With my limited ability to count people in a large area I would guess 3k - 5k people. Also a picture of my protest sign which was a big hit!
