Writing on behalf of my partner, who is alone and anxiously waiting out the weekend in our new home. Also writing for myself, as I feel powerless to help. I need your input on what to do and what to prepare for. The tldr is at the bottom.
I was on the phone with my ex about an hour ago. First, the good news: her grandson fully recovered from Covid; she had to get off the phone to get him to a birthday party.
It’s an ongoing debate I have with one of my students. He says English/language teachers specifically will have a hard time finding work in about 2-5 years. I disagree, especially for students who want a more conversational approach and can afford the classes.
For me it’s cats 100% they are low maintenance and each of them have their own personality and they’ve been largely unchanged (ie further domesticated) for at least thousands of years. I just think they’re neat! 🐈
For me, it’s access to cheese. There’s no one that sells cheese that isn’t queso fresco in my neighborhood and I can’t (don’t want to) use it for pizzas or pastas.
My sister in laws want to have a get-together for Valentine’s Day, they’ll provide the drinks and I’ll be hosting. Other than balloons and karaoke I’m out of ideas for homemade decorations and snacks.
Even though I’m in Peru now, I sometimes miss my hometown San Antonio, TX (minus the politics of course). Hands down there is the best Tex-Mex and my Dad’s garden.
Im looking for new ideas to cook food out of my usual repertoire. It can be anything tasty, dinner/lunch related, spicy, cakes, sweets, vegetarian/vegan, breakfast, snacks, sauces, I’m interested to hear about it! 🍽️
Hello it’s me again, asking for y’all’s best decluttering tips/organizing systems because wow do I have a bunch of currently useless things that are hard to get rid of, for example
I’m in the process of moving and trying to figure out some sort of furniture layout or feng shui. I have a loose idea, but I’m unsure if the place will yield itself to any inspiration. Any help or suggestions?
One of my students today told me to have a peaceful Christmas. I don’t know if I want to have a peaceful Christmas, as it’s been hectic and filled with visiting family. Furthermore, I think I prefer this to being bored. What type adjectives would y’all use to describe your ideal holiday season vibe?
After a decade and becoming disillusioned with the academy, I’m using my time to reengage with what brings me meaning. I’m leaning towards applying my research and literature review skills to documentary or fact checking work. It would bring meaning and help me contribute to knowledge in a way that’s not accessible nor impactful in academia. I would appreciate insight into how to approach this change. I also care to share my story that brought me here so you can understand my trajectory and thought process.
I want to make the best effort to find news sources that aren't heavily biased nor full of shit. ProPublica has been recommended. How do you all feel about Reuters, Associated Press, National Public Radio and BBC? Please, recommend any other news sources. Thank you.
My child was just diagnosed with being on the spectrum. Having no personal experience or information about it, I am looking to better educate myself in order to be a better advocate for my son. I realize there is a lot of disinformation out there, so where is a good place to start? I know this is a really big question but anything helps.
I wish this was a joke. Bosch used USB Micro-A on some of their e-bike motors to connect to a phone, which is USB C. The only one I've been able to find is the one Bosch made that's like 3 inches long and basically useless.
My spouse found the jewelry I was planning to give her, didn't like it, and has given me a moritorium on purchasing any more jewelry. Please help me, I didn't have a backup and I want to do better than a rice cooker.
So, I'm trying to calculate the theoretical max wattage of everything plugged into my outlet. (Only have one wall socket in this room and need to carefully manage what's connected.)
I am the founder of a community that, I believe, is unique on the Internet. Probably, because it is a niche subject area within the academic field of humanities.
It's night and it's dark, so no lights which means no books. No wifi or PC. Gotta save phone battery so no phone. Also it's so damn hot I think I'm gonna melt.
Here in WA state, the minimum wage per hour is $15.74 (higher in some areas). Tipping culture says 20%, but that's generally to support lower paid waitstaff in areas that can pay less than minimum wage by employers. Where/What are you tipping and what kind of service would you expect for a 20% tip?
Basically the title. I've been thinking of checking out Mastodon, and I'd like to get opinions on which instances are great. I'm mostly just looking for something like Beehaw. That is to say, a chill and friendly place that's at least decently active.
I’ve used both Apple Music and Spotify in recent years and while their discovery is okay, it always plays it safe. As if they’ve made a genre that is just for me and won’t play anything outside of that. How do I expand my music horizons?
The best simple black business socks that don’t show the first gaps and then holes after a few weeks are…?
Help me out here, please. I’m still desperate. Everything I buy is rubbish.
Hi all! I'm a big fan of comfortable shoes and I've been wearing eccos for years now. However I've recently come to realise that they cannot be repaired (something to do with the material there made from).
I was talking to my friend how much I've been craving lobster 2 days ago. They now have lobster at my grocery store - they haven't had lobster in years. Last winter I was talking about how much I like goose over Turkey for Christmas dinner and suddenly they had frozen goose and they literally never had goose before.
Someone linked a site once (on Reddit) and I didn't bookmark either the post or the site :( but it was great - you used a sliding scale if I remember correctly for how much sun, wind, rain, snow, etc. close to ocean, mountains, etc. and it grayed out states and areas within a state to show you the remaining cities/areas that meet your requirements. Does this sound familiar to anyone? TIA!
My city used to have a great costume & theater supply shop, but it went under several years back. I’m trying to work out ideas for a Halloween costume, but I’m struggling to think of a good e-comm site for such things (better quality than your Spirit Halloween type places.)
I just realized the darkly theme i was using doesn't make hyperlinks a different color, and that was too confusing.
Also I'm just curious what the split is!
